HYDRA Base, Sokovia- 1952
It had been two years since the experiments had been taken out of their incubators. There had been many experiments to continue to make them more indestructible. The remaining ones now could hear 80kHz, lift 50kg weights, reach a speed of 30mph and run at this speed for 10 minutes. They could hold their breath for 1 hour and 25 minutes, have extremely fast reflexes and heal a broken bone within 3 days. When it came to languages, they could all speak 17 different languages as well as being able to sign in all those languages. Each of them was skilled in fighting despite being in a 2 year old body and could use any weapon handed to them perfectly as if they had been trained with it for years. The only downside that Zola found with this was that 18 of his original assets are now burned with their ashes dumped and buried somewhere far away never to see the light of day again. But he had to do it. He had to make them the perfect assets.
The remaining 12 consisted of 5 females and 7 males. They all now had lessons and trained together. When they went to bed, they never looked twice at the empty beds as they were just another number. They showed no emotions towards each other and wouldn't care if they were taken away to be the first to receive a new dose of serum.
The remaining 12 were in a biology lesson learning about the human anatomy.
"It would cause a disruption in the brain leaving the victim paralysed for life." Number 13 replied with the British accent they carried. This was because their main teacher that taught them most of their lessons was British. She was a retired HYDRA spy during WWII. She grew up in London being interested in human anatomy before going to Germany where she joined HYDRA who gave her a more interesting course where she could experiment on live humans. When the war broke out, she agreed to use her British past to spy on the SSR. She remained to HYDRA and joined the project by teaching the assets what they would need to survive on missions and giving them an education.
"That is correct Number 13." She replied.
Just as she was opening her mouth to ask another question, Meyer walked in. This alerted all the assets to stand up straight with their heads up.
"All of you are required in the weaponry room immediately." He instructed.
"Yes sir!" They all replied with in sync before walking out in a formation to the weaponry room.
They all entered only to be met by 12 people who were tied to chairs in a line. These people all had tears running down their faces and were struggling to release themselves from their chairs.
"Each of you must stand opposite a person that is in a chair." Zola, who was standing in a corner, walked towards them whilst commanding. "You must also grab a weapon of your choice."
The experiments each grabbed a weapon which ranged from guns to knives and daggers. They all stood opposite someone not knowing what was happening.
"You are all to kill the person in front of you." Zola directed at them before allowing an evil smile to grow on his face. "Begin."
Without hesitation, 11 of the assets all went ahead and killed the person in front of them. Some did a perfect shot through the heart or the centre of the head and others ran up and slit their throats. They had now become killers at the age of two. There was no hesitation in their actions and no remorse what so ever. The reaming asset continued to look at the 2 year old in front of him.
"Hurry up Number 13 before I put you in that chair!" Meyer shouted causing the two year old to cry further. Number 13 didn't even flinch. He just stood there staring at the boy.
"What did he do wrong?" Number 13 questioned causing everyone to freeze in the room. The assets had never talked back to anyone. They just did as they were told without hesitation. "Why should I kill someone if they haven't done anything wrong? He is innocent. I'm innocent as well and if I pull this trigger, that innocence will be gone."
Meyer and Zola looked at each other. This shouldn't happen. Their experiments should never get feelings. They weren't programmed for this. Meyer grabbed Number 13 by the forearm and pulled him out of the room towards an area the asset had never been. They continued to move down the dark corridor until they reached a set of stairs. Number 13 made no sound as he was dragged down the stairs and chucked roughly into a cell. Locking the door Meyer looked at Number 13, "You are going to stay here until I think of a suitable punishment for you." he spat on him and walked away leaving Number 13 lying in the dark, cold cell on the damp floor.
The other assets were given their dinner, which consisted of boiled vegetables, and then sent to bed. The 11 didn't exchange a word. They would never talk unless they were told to by a teacher or by Zola or Meyer. It was one of the many rules they followed. When they didn't, their punishments included a beating, being the first experiment or no food for a week which is how long they could last for without food. The beatings were always the worst though. It would range from whips to having their ankles and wrists tied and people beating them up so they couldn't fight back. They weren't allowed to make any noises during this no matter how much it hurt. The noises and cries for help would only make it worse.
They had a high pain tolerance but they could still feel it. A gunshot wound may not be as bad as it would be for other people but it would still make them want to cry out in pain. Zola refused to experiment any further with the pain tolerance as no pain tolerance would mean that they could never be threatened. The assets can't be threatened with death as they wouldn't care if they died, it was the pain that they would fear. They would never show it but they always feared it.
Pain was only fear they had and HYDRA always knew how to use it.
