Avengers Compound, New York- 2018
"You could have saved us."
"You deserve to live for eternity by yourself."
"You're a monster and there's nothing that can change about that."
"You killed all those innocent people."
Nish continued to sit on the sofa in the office area with her knees up to her chest as she stared out the window letting the voices and figures taunt her. It had been the same ever since 23 days ago when she watched her father and brother disintegrate into dust. She refused to sleep knowing that it would be so much worse which of course she was able to do. She was designed to not need sleep.
The voices ranged from her handlers to the spirits of the people she killed. Even Bucky would taunt her but the worse was always when Raz would stand there and say nothing. He would have an emotionless face and do nothing but stand there. She couldn't even begin to imagine what he would say if he could speak. But no one else could hear or see the things she could, it was all in her head. She thought being in HYDRA was the worse torture but she quickly realised that this was the worse by far. She couldn't ignore the voices like she could with the pain. She couldn't close her eyes and it would be over quicker. All she could do was sit there lost in thought as the voices continued to scream.
"She hasn't said a word, eaten or slept in 23 days." Steve said when Nat asked how Nish was doing. They both stood there staring at her as she sat there staring out the window. She hadn't moved from that position since Steve carried her back to the Compound. Nat had changed her clothes when they arrived into a baggy jumper and a pair of leggings with fluffy socks knowing that the blood on her previous clothes would start to smell. During the whole process, she remained oblivious and stayed deep in her thoughts.
"She's mourning for the family that she thought she had forever but now doesn't. She lost so much in those devastating seconds." Nat replied understanding her pain.
"But we all lost somebody." Steve replied still not understanding why they're all trying to get everyone back but her.
"Steve," Nat said with a sigh. "She was brought up and taught that she doesn't deserve anything. She had no one to tell her otherwise. When she finally had someone who treated her as a person instead of a weapon, it was taken away from her. She's realising that she doesn't deserve anything as the world took it away from her. So she's given up hope."
"But that's not true." Steve argued.
"But it is in her eye's." Nat said. She wanted to help the mourning girl so desperately but every time she comforted her and told her that nothing was her fault Nish would remain stoic as if she wasn't even there.
"Have we heard anything from Carol yet?" Steve asked Bruce as he continued to look at the map. The numbers kept on rising.
"Not since yesterday." He replied. "I'm sure she'll find him."
Steve nodded and left to use the bathroom for a shave. Whilst he was finishing up, he could feel vibrations. He ran out of the bathroom only to be met by Nat, James and Bruce. All 4 of them ran outside to see what the cause was.
As they ran outside they were greeted by Pepper who watched as Carol landed the large spaceship. The doors opened to reveal a blue android like human and a tired and starved looking Tony Stark. Steve immediately ran up the stairs to give him support.
"Couldn't stop him." Tony said with haggard breaths.
"Neither could we." Steve replied in almost assurance that said it wasn't his fault.
"Hang on." Tony stopped to catch his breath before looking at Steve. "I lost the kid."
"Tony we lost."
