CHAPTER SEVEN

Recap:

I heard a distant dog bark, and the door swung open, revealing a grinning Billie Joe Armstrong.

"Cassandra!" he exclaimed.

Holy. Shit.

I swear that in that instant, my heart stopped beating. I couldn't believe my eyes.

"Come in!" he exclaimed happily, opening the door as wide as it would go. I still couldn't believe my eyes. He didn't seem bothered by my shock, if noticing it at all.

We looked at each other for a minute or two until I came to my senses. I'm standing in front of Billie Joe motherfucking Armstrong, and I'm not saying a word. If this is some mistake, I have to relish it while it lasts. I broke into a huge grin, laughing slightly at myself. He smirked and gestured again for me to come inside. Tentatively I stepped inside, looking around in awe. The entrance was beautiful. It wasn't overly fancy, but it was bright, naturally lit, clean, just generally homey and nice.

"You have a beautiful home" I told him.

"Thank you- I'm glad you like it. I hope you'll be staying for a while."

I hope I will be too I felt like saying, but I bit my tongue.

"Will you please explain to me how I'm here?"

He chuckled.

"Of course. Come with me and you can meet everyone, and we'll explain what's up."

Meet everyone? Like Adrienne and the kids?

Before I could voice my question, it was answered. Before me sat Adrienne, Joey and Jakob Armstrong.  Adrienne was bouncing in her seat with excitement, Joey and Jakob smiled nicely at me. I suddenly felt very self concious. My long blonde hair was messily running down my back, my golden brown eyes had a thin lining of black and a touch of mascara. I had on black leggings and a white tank top with a red and white plaid shirt on over top, a tad warm for the scorching California weather. They all looked perfect, flawless even. They're the people I've imagined meeting for years.

"Hi" I breathed.

"Cassandra!" Adrienne cried excitedly. The boys laughed at their mom's enthusiasm.

"Cassie" I corrected with a laugh. "Cassandra sounds too formal."

"Well Cassie, we're super duper excited that you're here." Adrienne responded.

"I'm super happy to be here, although I'm not entirely sure what's going on" I told her honestly.

"Sit, sit, we'll tell you!" she pulled me down beside her, apparently trying her best not to hold my arms out of excitement as she talked.

"Well first off, I'm Adrienne, I'm sure you know who Billie Joe is, and these guys are Joey and Jakob." she said, gesturing to the boys.

Billie Joe sat down on the chair beside the couch Adrienne and I are on, and Joey and Jakob are on the other couch across from us.

"Basically what's happening is that Adrienne and I decided that we wanted to foster a kid, a teenager specifically." Billie Joe started.

"A teenager because everyone seems to believe they're so unmanageable" Jakob interjected. Everyone laughed at his emphasise on the word so.

"We wanted a teenager coming from a difficult situation so that we can hopefully make life better for them. We've been waiting for quite a while for what we thought the right match for us to come along, and then your social worker contacted us with your profile. She told us about your aspirations, both with music and with animals."

"We thought you're the perfect addition to our family." Adrienne interjected.

"We're really glad you're here." Joey finished.

It was the first time he'd said anything. His voice mesmermized me. Snap out of it  I thought. I don't want to creep everyone out, especially on the first day.

Everyone was smiling at me.

"You probably want a few minutes to get settled before your animals get here, so let me show you where your room is." Adrienne volunteered.

"Ok!" I exclaimed, glad to escape their eyes for a while.

She led me up the stairs, a few feet down the hall, to a closed door. She opened it, revealing the most perfect bedroom I've ever seen. It had off white walls with a big bed in the corner covered in purple blankets and pillows. The closet looked big even when it was closed, and there was a beautiful wooden dresser on one wall. The big window by the bed stretched halfway across the wall, letting in beams of perfect natural light. Right then Adrienne flicked a switch by the door, turning on fairy lights above the bed. I gasped.

"I know it's not much, but we wanted to leave some space for your animal things and for you to decorate a little yourself."

"Not much?! It's perfect! Thank you so much!"

I had to hug her. She hugged back tightly, then left the room with a smile on her face. I had to sit down on the bed and try to comprehend everything that had just happened.
