CHAPTER NINETEEN

Tonight's the night. I'm going to sing on stage with Emily's Army. Their shows aren't Green Day huge yet, but I've never sang in front of a group of people before, let alone at a gig with 500 people. I'm pretty terrified.

We were all back stage, having already warmed up. There are 10 minutes until showtime, and Billie, Adie and Jake are already in crowd. I was simply trying to stop myself from having an anxiety attack. Joey kept looking at me and smiling, obviously trying to calm me down, but it wasn't working. He grabbed my hand and pulled me outside. He pushed me against the wall and kissed me hard, until I was out of breath. He then pulled me to his chest and whispered "Breathe" into my ear.

"We're up there together, baby. It's gonna be great, you just need to keep breathing."

And just like that I calmed down. He's right- we're up there together, and we're going to kill it.

Before I knew it, we were on stage, and the crowd loved it. I sang every song with the guys. I felt unstoppable. I was all over the stage, delighted.

At the end of the last song, we all lined up across the front of the stage, and Joey put his arm around me. I tried my best to make it look like no big deal for Billie and Adie's sake. We each bowed in turn, and none of us could wipe the grin off of our faces.

As Cole was saying the final thank yous, he shouted "Welcome to the band, Cassie!" My jaw dropped. I probably looked like an idiot, standing on stage with my mouth hanging open, but I couldn't help it. The instant I gathered my thoughts and realized that now I'm a part of EA, I launched myself at Joey, then Cole, then Travis, and finally, Max.

We exited the stage, my head spinning. Jake was already waiting for us backstage, and Billie and Adie were there soon after. Everyone was hugging and I was so overwhelmingly happy in that moment, tears running down my cheeks and a grin that I simply couldn't wipe away. After saying our goodbyes to our family, Joey and I went to Cole and Max's house, along with Travis, where we would spend the night. When we got there, Sebastian, Alana, Carly, and two girls that Max and Cole have their eyes on were waiting for us.

We spent the night in the basement drinking cheap beer and watching horror movies. The movies gave all of the girls excuses to cuddle with their guys, and the guys knew it. The last movie ended, but none of us noticed. Everyone was intoxicated and tired. Joey and I got into our shared sleeping bag.

"Wanna make out?" he whispered to me.

"Yes please." I whispered back.

After a while, we fell asleep. I don't know if I'll ever get used to the happiness falling asleep in Joey's arms brings me, and I'm not sure I want to.
