CHAPTER EIGHT
I unpacked my clothes, thinking about how awkward it is that I'm living with the frontman of Green Day when most of my wardrobe is Green Day merch. At least I have a few things that aren't band merch though. And since it's California I'll probably need to buy myself some cooler clothes, coming from Canada.
I had just packed everything away when Billie Joe came up and knocked slightly on the open door.
"Your pets are here!"
I almost squealed with excitement.
"Okay!" I cried happily, following him down the stairs.
We went out the front door to the driveway, where a van waited. The driver got out and opened the back doors, revealing my gorgeous golden retrievers in big crates, my birds, and my lizard.
I jumped into the van enthusiastically, clipping leashes onto the collars of Biscuit and Sapphire and taking them out of the van.
I plopped to the ground, cooing at them and grinning and they jumped all over me, licking my face happily.
I was soon joined on the ground by everyone else, petting my dogs. I noticed at the same time as my girls that two dogs that I recognized as Cleo and Rocky bounded over and introduced themselves.
"This is Cleo and Rocky" Jakob told me, pointing to them both in turn.
"Hi puppies!" I said sweetly to them and began to pet them, quickly giving up on that idea as it turned into a four dog play session.
"Here, bring them into the back yard and then you can take their leashes off" Adrienne said.
We did that, leaving the dogs in the yard for a few minutes. Back at the van we each took different parts of the bird and lizard stuff, bringing it up to my room. Joey lifted Nano's tank onto the end of my dresser. I plugged in her heat lamp and set her inside it. She quickly ran for cover under a rock, clearly a little overwhelmed by all the commotion.
Next we all worked on setting up Ernie and Oswald's cage stand, attaching the big cage to it. I opened the door to their traveling cage, and they carefully perched on each arm. I held my arms up and said
"Kisses!"
They both pressed their beaks against my cheeks.
"Awwwww!" Adrienne cooed.
"That's so sick! Did you train them to do that? I didn't even know that was possible!" Joey exclaimed.
Billie Joe and Jakob just looked thrilled that my birds kissed me on command.
I nodded at Joey. "They're rescues, so it took some work, but it was worth it in the long run. They're the most loyal creatures ever now."
Joey smiled and came closer to them
"Can I pet them?"
I nodded again. He carefully stroked their backs simultaneously, jumping whenever they moved. I had to laugh at them- it would make such a cute picture.
For a few minutes everyone took turns petting them, and then I put them in their cage, proceeding to give them food.
"Is there anything I can do to help?" Jakob asked.
"Sure!" I said, handing him the bird water bottle and dish, and the lizard water bowl. "Can you fill all of these with room temperature water?"
He nodded yes and walked off into what appeared to be my bathroom. I haven't even gotten a chance to look at it yet. But a bathroom inside my bedroom- that is SO cool!
Once we had the animals all set up, everyone went downstairs and we let the dogs in so that they can explore the house. Apparently it was time for me to get a tour of this huge house. I saw all the standard rooms: formal living room, family room, kitchen, laundry room, ect. Across from my bedroom was Joey's, and a little down the hall was Jakob's. After Jakob's there were two more spare bedrooms. Crazy, right?! Billie Joe and Adrienne's room is on the main floor, beside the office.
It was the last room of the tour that stole my heart. The music room. Billie Joe opened the sticker-covered door with pride, revealing a marvelous space filled with glorious amounts of instruments that the family had aquired over the years.
I entered with awe, trying to take in the posters on the walls, two drum sets, guitars everywhere- many of which I recognized from different Green Day eras.
When I finally turned back to face everyone, they were all beaming at me.
"So what do you play?" Joey asked.
I sort of blushed at this. It always made me uncomfortable talking about my own music.
"Clarinet is my main instrument. But I also play flute, piano, guitar, and bass. And the basics of saxaphone."
"Dayyyum gurrrrll" Billie Joe said jokingly. I had to grin. I love this family already.
