(This chapter is gonna be short. Sorry!)
Bendy's POV:
I watched Charley get dragged off and out of the cafeteria. I really felt like coming clean and taking his place. I had a feeling he wouldn't like that, though.
I stared back down at the popsicle in my hand before glancing back up around the room. Everyone had finished their meals and were heading to the playroom.
I noticed Edgar walking out with them.
I trotted up to him and grabbed his wrist. He turned around and looked at me in confusion.
I put on a friendly smile before starting to speak. "Hey Edgar. I got something for ya!". I held up the popsicle for him to see.
It was heartwarming to see his face light up as he took it from me.
"Thank youuuu!" he cheered happily. I patted his head and chuckled.
"Hey, mind if we talk in the playroom?".
"Okay!". He shoved the popsicle into his mouth and swallowed the whole thing, throwing the stick onto the ground. I was surprised on how he did that.
We both walked out together. I sat with Boris and Alice again, only this time Edgar was with us. They greeted him with waves, in which he delightfully waved back. Their attention soon shifted to me.
"Did you manage to get the popsicle, Bendy?" Boris asked me.
"Sure did!".
"Wait really?! You managed to get it all by yourself without getting caught?!".
"Well, for the most part.".
"What do you mean?".
"Charley distracted the chef and nurses for me.".
"Did he now? That's pretty shocking.".
"Where is he? I don't see him anywhere." Alice questioned.
"Oh. He, uh, got sent to isolation.".
"What?! Why did he go to the scary room?!" Edgar frantically asked me.
"I guess you could say he took a bullet for me.".
"What does that mean?" Boris cut in.
"he told the nurses that he stole it, not me. Some jackass tattled on us, and he told everyone it was him.".
They all seemed dumbfounded.
"Can't believe he'd do that." Alice commented.
"Either did I. Does that mean he forgives me?".
"I'd assume.".
"Well, that's great! But now I need the answers I was promised." I turned to Edgar.
He looked back at me with confusion in his eyes.
"Hey Edgar, how well do you know Charley and Barley?".
"They're my best buddies! I know everything!".
"Would you mind telling me some things about them?".
"Hmmm I don't know... What if they get mad at me?".
"If they do then just blame me. I doubt they will though. I earned Charley's trust, and he also said he'd talk to Barley for me. Now, can you tell me why Barley is here?".
He was silent for a few seconds. He then spoke quietly.
"He tried to kill himself. Didn't succeed though.".
"Oh shit really? When was that?".
"He tried when he was 16. That's when he was put in here. He was released about four times before but kept attempting to kill himself.".
"My god... How old is he now?" I asked with grief.
"39." He answered quietly.
I had to take a minute to process what I heard. How could a man be that sad to where he would attempt suicide five times?! I don't even know him that well, but I really felt like giving him a hug. He sounded like he needed one.
"Anything else I should know about him?".
"He likes marine life. Stuff about fish and the ocean make him happy.".
"So if I wanted to have a conversation or make him feel comfortable, I'd talk about marine life?".
"Mhm! Doubt he would respond with his voice though.".
"Do you know why?".
"Nah. He probably just wants to be quiet or something. I don't know.".
I took a minute to think about what I learned.
"Thanks Edgar. You can go play now if you want.".
"Yay!".
He leaned forward and gave me a tight hug before running off. I watched him leave with a smile as I turned back to the other two.
I have already gained everyone else's trust. All I needed was his, and we would be on our road to freedom. It won't be long.
I just hope nothing happens before then.
