Bendy's POV:
Four nurses entered the room as the wicked woman turned away from us. "Nurses, would you be a dear and get these scandals out of my office?".
The complied, and we were each grabbed and pulled to our feet. We were all incredibly weak. Not even Charley had the energy to fight. "Have a good day." she mumbled.
I knew she didn't mean it.
I couldn't even walk straight. A lot of it was due to the pain, but also the amount of disappointment I felt. I wouldn't give two shits if I was stuck here for a little longer, but the people I've met have been around for years.
No wonder Charley lost hope.
Well, he may have given up, but I havent. I glanced around quickly, hoping to see something I could use. I finally noticed something. Something helpful yet dangerous.
A candle. An open flame. In a room full of flammable objects.
A room with no extinguisher, and the only room with an alarm system.
I took no time to hesitate as I began to thrash around, hoping to get loose. The nurse struggled to detain me. She required help from another. The one that was holding Charley let him go to try and control me. I begged that Charley would do something.
He didn't. Frozen in fear and still in pain, he stayed put.
I made a last second decision. A decision that could easily ruin my plan.
"Charley! The candle!" I yelled at him. I could see the moment it clicked. He knew what I meant. Thank God.
Sadly, so did the bunny. "Don't! Nurses, control him!".
One of them released me and ran after Charley. The nurse restraining me became distracted, which gave me an opportunity. I elbowed him in the gut a few times. He didn't let go, but it caused his grip to loosen.
I finally lost my patience and sunk my teeth into his arm. Sure, it was strange of me to bite him. I was desperate.
He let out a low groan of agony. His grip on me weakened just enough for me to wiggle free. I dashed towards the candle. I snatched it, causing the melted wax to coat my hand. I heard the bunny beg and plead for me to stop.
I didn't listen. She didn't care about our suffering, so why should I care about hers?
In the moment, I felt untouchable. It was a type of cockiness that pleased anybody. With all my might I slammed the candle onto the carpet. The small, content flame grew into a wild blazing one. The temperature in the room rose. Smoke began to fill the room as I covered my mouth and nose to protect myself.
Now for the hard part.
Escaping.
Panicked conversations filled the room, along with the cracking and popping of fire. I backed away, staring at it in all its glory. I looked behind me. There It was. The fire alarm.
I stumbled to it, grabbing it tightly and triggering it. Loud alarms blared through the Asylum. Through the playroom, through the halls, through the basement. This seemingly harmless Asylum became nothing short of a hell hole.
I looked to my left and towards the exit. Nobody was there. They all evacuated, or at least, I hope. I could hear screams from patients through the walls. I could only pray that Boris would escape, too.
I gave the bunny the middle finger before dashing out of the room, slamming the door behind me. The fire spread rapidly, and I had to act fast. The others were waiting for me in the elevator. The nurses? No idea where they went.
Surely the elevator would finish it's descend before the fire got the best of it.
With the push of a button, we went down. The elevator music was poorly timed yet comical. Here we were, fearing for our lives while "Smooth Criminal" played. I glanced at the others to see their reactions. Poor Alice was freaking out, covering her ears and crying. I know the sound frightened her, but it was worth it. Anything for her safety.
Charley appeared to be in some sort of shock. He was staring at the ground with wide eyes, trying to process what happened. Barley wasn't any better, he was looking around nervously. He then gave me a "What the hell is going on" look.
"Dont worry, we'll be out of here soon. I promise.".
No response. I didn't expect one.
Just as the elevator reached the ground floor, I heard one of the cables snapped. The slowly opening doors gave me nothing but anxiety. I banged on them, hoping they would somehow understand me. Alice's wailing grew louder.
Another cable breaking caused us to rock. The elevator doors had stopped opening, leaving only a small gap. I tried to squeeze through, but I couldn't. I knew I should've gone on a diet.
Alice and Barley also failed to free themselves from the broken elevator. The only one who managed to squeeze through was Charley.
He stared at us in horror, and we stared back. I was fully expecting him to leave us due to his panic.
He didn't. He began to try and pry the doors open forcefully. When that failed, he rapidly pressed the button used to open the doors. When it still didn't work that's when he grew panicked.
I looked up, now sweating. Fire was surrounding the outside of the elevator, causing it to act like a giant oven. With increasing temperatures and the lack of oxygen, we wouldn't last long.
I noticed Charley staring at something before running away from the elevator. My heart dropped, convinced he was going to leave us.
I decided to try and help by pushing on the doors, attempting to open them. It didn't work. As scared as they were, Alice and Barley joined in. The doors inched open just barely, but it wasn't enough to wiggle free.
Charley soon came back, holding a metal pipe he had found in a pile of debris.
Alongside him was Apollo. He had remained inside to make sure everybody got out.
Him and Charley inserted the pipe between the doors. Using it like a crowbar, they pulled with all their strength. This combined with the pushing resulted in the doors shooting open. Finally, we could escape.
One by one we stepped out, making sure to avoid the flames that had now spread to the cafeteria and playroom. Just as Alice exited, the elevator collapsed and fell to the bottom floor. That was close. Too close.
Without saying a word, we all ran to the exit. Burning wood planks were barricading the doors. Great. Just great.
However, Charley seemed unbothered. He grabbed the scorching wood with his bare hands, burning himself severely. It worked, though. The planks were removed. Finally, we were free. We ran out into the parking lot, breathing in the fresh air.
A crowd of panicked patients were waiting on the grass. Some fell unconscious and were being treated by paramedics. Some were being carried away in ambulances. It was a horrible sight. I just hope that the majority of patients survived.
Charley and Barley ran off into the crowd. Who knows what they were looking for. Alice stumbled towards a friend as they embraced in a tight hug.
I was busy looking for Boris.
I pushed through the crowd, calling his name. No response. I then came to a horrible realization.
Boris was still inside.
I had to make a split-second decision. Sprint back into the rapid flames to search for him or leave it to the professionals.
...
With the adrenaline built up in my body, I ran back into the Asylum. I could hear firefighters and patients ordering me to come back. I didn't listen. I was going to save Boris if it cost me my life.
My body temperature immediately rose as I took a step into the building. Covering my nose and mouth with my gown, I began to search for Boris. I was calling out for him with my eyes squinting and watering due to the smoke and dust.
When I got no reply, I decided to check the last place I saw him. The cafeteria.
I leapt over piles of debris and avoided the fires, making my way to the cafeteria. Once inside I screamed for him.
Silence. And then a yelled reply came from further into the room. It was Boris. He must have been trapped.
"I'm coming Boris!" I shouted as I ran to the noise. I finally found him. He was trapped under some rubble. "I can't feel my legs!" he informed me.
"Hang on!" I tried to calm him as I dug through the rubble. It was heavy. Heavy and burning.
My hands became red and inflamed. My muscles strained, my cuts and bruises stung, my legs trembled, my throat hurt, my eyes water, and my head throbbed. All this pain was worth it, though. Anything to save him.
Finally, he was able to wiggle out. His legs were bruised but miraculously not broken. My vision began to blur as I grew lightheaded. We needed to get out. Now.
"Cmon! Let's go!" I screamed weakly as he both wobbled to the exit. Boris gained a sudden burst of energy, probably from adrenaline. He ran out before I did and into the sunlight.
I cracked a smile as I got closer. I was finally free.
Or so I thought.
Just then I felt a tight grip on my foot. I expected it to be some rubble, but it wasn't.
Bunny.
She looked furious. She was burned all over and panting. Though, her grip was incredibly tight. "You. YOU RUINED EVERYTHING." she snapped.
Without responding I began to struggle. She yanked me to the ground, not letting me escape. "LET GO OF ME!" I demanded.
She refused as she began dragging me further from the escape. Just then, almost as if it was a miracle, several burning pieces of wood collapsed on her. It knocked her out, causing her to let go of me. Too weak to stand I began to desperately crawl.
I was struggling to breathe. The fire and my injuries became unbearable. I felt trapped.
Then, I fell into darkness.
.
.
.
A beeping noise disrupted by deep sleep. I waited a bit before finally opening my eyes. Last place I recalled being was the burning Asylum. Now, I was in a white room next to a window. It appeared to be morning. I glanced to my right. A heart monitor. A tube was inserted through my nose, and an IV in my left arm.
Next, a TV mantled on the wall. It was playing some show I've never heard of. The chirping of birds, the audio from the TV, and the beeping from the monitor were the only sounds filling the room. It was...
Relaxing.
I looked at myself next. I was still in a gown. A different gown, though. A hospital gown.
My arms were covered in burns, bruises, and cuts. My cheeks were also scorched. My legs stung, although I couldn't' see them.
Suddenly, the door creaked open. I jumped. I still didn't know where I was. A nurse poked her head in. She wasn't like the one in the asylum. She looked like one that worked in a hospital.
Wait. Was I in the hospital?
"Oh! Good morning, sir. How are you feeling?".
"Okay. I guess...".
"Great! You have some visitors. Would you like to see them?".
I was puzzled about who they may be. Only one way to find out. "Sure.".
The nurse waved some people in. As I saw them enter, I felt like crying tears of joy.
One by one, the ones I cared about stepped in.
First was Alice. Then Charley and Barley wobbled in. Followed by Boris. Edgar, then my parents. Finally, Apollo. They were all here to see me.
Alice spoke first. She had bandages wrapped around her arms, legs, and neck. Her hair was also short, around collar bone length. She was smiling at me warmly. "Hi Bendy. How are you feeling?".
"Heh, I could be better. I'm just glad I'm alive though... and, I'm glad you guys are alive too." I responded with a chuckle.
"Barely." Boris responded jokingly.
He was a bit worse. All bandaged up, a tube through his nose which was attached to some sort of gadget. He was also in a wheelchair for the time being. I hoped it wasn't too serious.
My mom stepped closer, staring at me with shame. "Oh, Ben I'm so sorry. If only I knew this place was that awful, I would've never allowed you to come here.".
After not hearing her voice in what felt like ages, it almost made me tear up. "It's okay. You didn't know.".
"No, it's not okay! Look at you! You and your friends were hospitalized! It makes me sick just thinking about it!".
"Trust me, it makes us all sick." Charley suddenly interrupted. His arms and hands were wrapped tightly, leaving him unable to move them. Everything else was covered by a hospital gown. Except for his hair, which had noticeably shortened in length. "To think that they were treating patients that way. Hell, a lot of them were still kids.".
"It breaks my heart. I'm just glad that... you're all safe now.".
"Hope so." Barley added. His arms were also wrapped tightly from the burns and cuts. There was a bandage over his eye rather than an eye patch. He no longer had a beard, as the fire burned it and he decided to shave the rest off.
"Dont worry! Were all safe!" Edgar squeaked cheerfully. I couldn't help but smile. That god he got out when he did. I wouldn't have forgiven myself if he endured what I did.
Lastly, there was Apollo. He didn't speak. Just... observed. I could tell he felt bad, and even partially responsible. Though, I had to give him credit where credit was due.
"It was brave of you to stay behind and help us out of that elevator. We probably wouldn't have escaped if it wasn't for you." I informed him.
That seemed to cheer him up. "Thanks. I just wish I told somebody earlier, like the police. Maybe all of this could've been avoided."
We sat in silence, thinking over everything.
For once, the others and I felt safe.
