"I can't talk right now. Listen, I'm at my kid's meet-the-teacher night, and I'm two seconds from my meeting with them. Can I call you back when I'm headed home or actually home?" Y/N sighed into her phone after finding a vacant corner in the loud school. "Well, the on-call practitioner can get over it. It's my day off... He's on-call for a reason."
She paused rolling her eyes as she watched the little brunette girl of hers run around with friends.
"Tell him I'll sign it tomorrow if he just leaves it on my desk. That is not a dire situation like he thinks it is." The furrow in her brow eased some as she smiled softly at her daughter beginning to braid her friend's hair. "Thank you, Daisy. I'm sorry he's such a pain. I promise when I have my practice this won't be an issue. Hmm mm. Just a little longer. Yes. Ok, goodnight D."
Hanging up the phone, Y/N let out another long sigh before straightening and walking back over to her spot in the hallway.
"Office can't seem to function without you, huh?" The older brunette laughed beside her.
"Apparently. Can't even begin to imagine that they'll be able to stand on their own when I leave in a few months," Y/N huffed. "Still waiting?" she nodded to the classroom door.
"Yeah, I think he's almost done though. I saw them stand in there, but they looked like they were still talking last-minute things."
"Thanks again for watching her while I talk to him, Hope."
"We do this every year, Y/N/N. Why are you thanking me?" Hope laughed.
"Cause you don't have to stay and wait around for me, but you always do. The least I can do is say thank you," Y/N sassed in a joking manner back.
"Well, you're my ride, so..." she teased nudging her with her shoulder.
"Right! Forgot about that," she responded, shaking her head with another laugh.
Hope and Y/N had been friends for a while now. Both of them had gone to high school and college together, and both had little girls around the same time. Y/N's pregnancy was by accident, Hope actually planned it with her college sweetheart having graduated a few years earlier.
She was married to a dork of a man named Scott Lang. They met her freshman year of college and didn't really hit it off right off the bat. Hope saw him as a total dork with a sketchy background, but deep down he was actually just a dork with a crappy upbringing. He was the actual sweetest man alive though and had his life of crime in his past. Lots of shoplifting and hacking stuff in high school, but all things he grew out of.
After non-stop pursuit of Hope when he met her, he eventually was able to lock her down a year later. They dated all through college, got married their senior year, and then had their kid Doris, or Dori named after Hope's grandmother, a year later.
Dori was a year older than Y/N's child Aurora. When Y/N came to Hope with the anxiety of an unexpected pregnancy, Hope was her rock in getting her to where she was today. She helped her through the pregnancy, just having gone through it the year before.
When Aurora was born, the best friends' kids became best friends of their own, spending almost every day with each other and going on playdates.
Now Dori was in 3rd grade and Rori was on her way to 2nd. Yes, Dori and Rori were the pair's names. Confusing at times, but the nicknames just happened.
Y/N had practically bawled when her little brown-haired girl had her kindergarten graduation and was making her way up the ladder in school. She was just about to turn 7 in less than a month.
