The night went well just like all their girl's nights usually did. The two snuggled, played Finding Nemo for the hundredth time, and pampered themselves before school started back up for Rori.

As soon as her little girl was put to bed, Y/N got situated for bed herself, knowing she was going to have an early morning. She quickly texted Hope letting her know that she would think about it another time. Coming up with an excuse that work had called and once again asked the world of her, and she had to put the new situation on the back burner for now. Hope didn't approve but didn't push either.

But sure enough, one can't truly go to bed with a clear mind when they had run into the long lost father of their daughter earlier that day.

Eventually, the overthinking exhausted Y/N, and she passed out sometime around 2 in the morning. Leaving her with less than 5 hours of sleep as Rori came running in at 6:28 am full of first-day excitement.

"First day of school! First day of school, Mom!" Rori shouted, jumping on her mom's king-size bed that she was starfished on.

"Ugh," Y/N moaned as she turned to put her head under the pillow. "Five more minutes."

"No, there's no time for five more minutes! You have zero minutes to get up!" Rori shouted again, jumping close to her mother's head. "It's the first day of second grade!"

"Ok, you little clown fish. Maybe we shouldn't have watched that movie last night. I think it gave you ideas," Y/N groaned as she pushed the pillow away and looked up at her daughter smiling brightly at her.

"You going to get up, or should I keep jumping?" Rori asked, crossing her arms.

"I don't know how, but it's like you absorbed every ounce of the sass trait out of me when you were in the womb and multiplied it by a hundred," she mumbled sitting up now. "I'm up. I'm up."

"Perfect! I'm going to get dressed and then we can have breakfast!" Rori smiled before jumping off the bed and running to her bedroom down the hall. Her outfit was already picked out the night before by the two.

"You couldn't have got dressed before coming in here?" Y/N sighed, throwing her legs over the bed and yawning. Finally standing up, she stretched her limbs out from slumber and moved to the bathroom to get ready.

Once she was dressed and ready for work herself, she heard clattering in the kitchen. Rori was probably already attempting to make breakfast for herself.

"You better not be making a mess in there you little monster," Y/N laughed, turning the corner and seeing that she was stretching her arms to get the muffins on top of the microwave just fingertips out of reach. She had always been a little short for her age. "Want help, or do you want to do it yourself?"

"I can do it," Rori said with her little tongue sticking out of her mouth in concentration.

"Ok, well you know where the stool is if you need it. You're an indepen-"

"I'm an independent woman, Mommy. I can do it," Rori sighed taking a break from stretching before jumping slightly to knock them close and grabbing the container. "Got it!"

"Nice job, Sunshine." Y/N smiled at her little girl. "We have a few minutes before-" her phone beeping in her jean pocket cut her off. Looking down at the message she let out a long sigh. "Looks like Auntie Hope may be taking you on your first day."

"What? Why?" Rori asked with a mouth full of orange and cranberry muffins.

"Work just called. I need to be 30 minutes early for an emergency check-in by some supervisors," Y/N explained.
