I was just about to turn off the lights in the apartment to go to bed, when suddenly there was a loud knock on the door. With furrowed brows I wondered who would come by so late. Quickly I hurried to the door and turned on a few of the lights again, I did not want that my neighbors were disturbed by the loud and persistent knocking. After all, it was already quite late and I had no desire for trouble.

A quick glance through the peephole showed me the person standing in front of my door. However, I could hardly believe it. It had been so long since I had seen this man.

"Roman! What are you doing here?" I asked surprised when I opened the door.

He looked at me with glassy eyes and I felt like he was having trouble standing up straight.

"Hey... Y/N! I... I need to talk to you." he slurred. It was hard to understand him properly.

"Honey, are you drunk?" I wanted to know.

"Just a tiny little bit," he replied, having to brace himself against the door frame, otherwise he would probably have fallen over.

"Okay, come on in for now. I'll make you a coffee. Please tell me you didn't drive yourself," I said as I stepped aside to let him in. Seeing how much he was swaying, I grabbed his arm and guided him to the sofa. Roman dropped onto the sofa and immediately leaned his head against the headboard.

He sat there with his eyes closed until he finally answered my question from before.

"No.. Didn't drive... came with Uber." he mumbled. My god he really was totally hammered.

"I'll get you that coffee." said I, turning towards the kitchen.

"No coffee... need to talk to you... Come here..." he replied, reaching out with his big hands in my direction.

"Alright. What's on your mind Ro?" I asked as I sat down with him.

"W-why didn't you respond to the invitation to my wedding?" he wanted to know. Roman looked at me with his big brown eyes and made a pouty face.

"Oh... well, to be perfectly honest, I thought it was just a courtesy invitation. And besides, I don't think it's a good idea for me to come to your wedding, Ro. After all, I am your ex-girlfriend." I explained to him.

"But... But I invited you because I want you to be there, Y/N. You know I love you." He whined, rubbing his eyes.

I couldn't help but roll my eyes and shake my head.

"And yet you were the one who broke up with me back then. You said that what we had couldn't be all there was. That you wanted more. You probably remember how much you hurt me. And now you really expect me to come to your wedding?" I replied. Even though it was many years ago, it still hurt as much as the first day.

"I know, but we've always been friends anyway, haven't we? You can't abandon me, Muffin!" he said then, using the old nickname he had for me.

"You're not going to give up until I say yes are you?" I sighed. I knew him so well that I was well aware that he wouldn't give in so easily. Drunk or not.

I mean, he was right about us still being friends, nevertheless, that was a lot to ask. He always meant a lot to me, that's probably why I could never let him go completely. Part of me always wanted him in my life. But watching him marry another woman? Could I really stand that? I doubted it.

"Maybe you should sleep now, Roman. We'll talk about it in the morning. I'll get you a blanket," I continued avoiding his words.

I hoped that in the morning, when he was no longer under the influence of alcohol, he would see things differently and would no longer insist that I attend his wedding.

Roman lay down on the sofa and I spread the blanket over him. Gently I tucked him in. A look at his face showed me that it was already asleep. At least that's what I thought.

But when I reached his head, he suddenly took my hand and opened his eyes again.

"I really love you." he breathed and then passed out.
