Rhea Taylor
⇠⇢"Sunshine?" I turn to see my mom standing near the kitchen, with a questionable look. I don't know how much time has went by since speaking with Aaron, but I've been looking out the window for a while now.
I didn't want to argue. I'm not even sure if it was an argument.
"I don't need your help".
His words kept repeating as I stared off into the city. He doesn't need my help and I'm pretty sure he doesn't want it. There's a difference between wanting and needing something. Aaron can say he wants my help but he doesn't necessarily need it.
He's a grown man. I know that, but it's okay to ask for help especially when you're receiving calls from a prison.
A hand rests on my shoulder.
My mom takes the seat next to me at the dining table, clasping her fingers together and tilting her head, awaiting a response. I turn my head back to the window with my leg lightly bouncing up and down. "Rhea Inari Taylor, ¿Qué pasa?" she says lowly whispering. I shake my head feeling her grab my forearm.
(Translation: what's the matter?)"Nothing, mama" I say, my voice wavering. "Estoy bien, solo estoy- bien".
(Translation: I'm fine, I'm just- fine)"Speak to me Rhea, I don't like seeing you like this. This isn't my Rhea, you don't let things get to you like this" I turn to her and nod. She closes her eyes for a moment, "Just promise me, you'll work it out?".
"Yes, mama. I will".
"Is this about him?" she signals her head to my bedroom. I nod and look away.
"I know something's wrong and he keeps a lot in" I say looking back at her, fiddling with my fingers after she let my forearm go.
"He'll open up eventually sunshine, just- whatever is going on with him just know it's not easy. It can't be easy. Remember what happened with your grandpa?"
My lips form a line at the memory.
"Well, your father kept everything to himself because of how he missed the appointments without knowing what your grandfather was going through, then to find out days later he passed. He was your fathers idol, it's why he joined firefighting. It was hard on you, me, Mana, and definitely your father. He didn't speak to me for days. We went to sleep with a goodnight and that was it. Then to find out he blamed himself for how everything went". She says wiping a fallen tear then taking in a breathe.
