Chapter 25

Kase, Arthur, and Jemma all stood outside a hospital room waiting. They had tried to act busy but anyone who walked by them could tell they were just waiting for someone to walk out of there and tell them what was going on. Jemma had been told to leave the room before she could learn what was going on which meant she had to deal with waiting as well.

"I'm not calling his brother. Leo has made that very clear in the past that he does not want that." Derek said to Webber as he walked out of the room. The two doctors had not noticed the three interns move towards them until they almost ran into them.

"Don't you three have something to be doing right now?" Webber asked

"No." Arthur answered. "Dr. Sloan is our resident." The two older doctors both knew that but didn't say anything about that.

"How is Dr. Sloan?" Jemma asked.

"Stable but not awake." Webber answered.

"What happ-"

"We won't have answers for you three for a little while. Right we need to get back to our jobs. Dr. Blackwell you will work we me today. Dr. Porter are you okay working my wife?" Derek asked. Jemma nodded. "Good, Dr. Knight, go see if Dr. Burke needs anything."

After telling them what they would be doing Jemma and Arthur split off to go find the two they would be working with and Derek sent Kase to go find a room and wait outside for him. The neurosurgeon sighed as he looked at the room, which has the windows to see inside covered for now.

"They will learn eventually." Webber said.

"But not today." Derek said looking at the Chief of Surgery. "You know he wouldn't do this to himself right?"

"I know, but when he wakes up..."

"Yeah he will probably have to the police if we are right." Derek said. Derek looked back at the room.

"Check in later, you have patients to check in with." Webber said trying to get Derek to focus on something different right now. The neurosurgeon nodded but didn't look away from the room yet. "You will be one of the first to know when labs come back."

"Thanks."

Kase sat on the ground in one of the hospital hallways. Jemma and Arthur had both gone home for the day but Kase was on call that night so he was still at the hospital. The intern looked down at the ground allowing someone to walk up beside him without him noticing until their shadow blocked out the light.

"On call tonight?" The intern looked up to see Derek standing there.

"Yeah. Sorry, did you need me to do something?" Kase asked "You hadn't told me anything and-"

"Dr. Blackwell what do you think happened in the OR today?" Derek asked. The neurosurgeon leaned against the wall next to where Kase sat. The intern didn't take up much space where he sat but now with both him and Derek they took up a little more space in the hall that would have to be cleared for an emergency.

"Uh, I don't know." Kase answered.

"Think about it." Derek said.

"From what I saw, he was pale, and his hands were shaking." Kase started to list things that he saw or could notice. "Confusion, then he passed out. I guess there might be something I didn't know though. Those are just basic symptoms which could mean a lot of things." Derek looked down at the intern for a moment before he moved and saw down on the floor next to him.

"Leo somehow took a high dosage of Clozapine." Derek said.

"Isn't that a medication to treat-"

"Yeah it is." Derek didn't let Kase finish his question because he knew exactly what he was going to say.

"Is he um.."

"No. But he does know someone that is. I won't tell you who they are, that's up to Leo." Derek looked over at the intern. The neurosurgeon stood up and walked to the door across the hall and opened it a crack. Derek made a small gesture to alert Kase he could go in before he started to walk away. "It looks like I'm off work for the night. My backs turn so I can't see what's going on behind me."

Kase smiled a little bit as he stood up and headed to the room. He hesitated right outside of the room before pushing the door open and he walked inside. The intern closed the door before anyone noticed he went inside, mostly because they had been told not to go in there that day, and he turned around.

Kase looked at Leo, who was still not awake, who was laying on the hospital bed. The intern walked deeper into the room and spotted a chair that had already been angled towards the bed. He could only assume Derek or Chief Webber had used it earlier but it was more likely Derek. The intern moved towards the chair and sat down.

"Hey.. um, I'm really not supposed to be in here but I guess I wanted to make sure you were still alive myself. What happened in the OR kind of scared Jemma and me." Kase said.

"I won't be here long, I am on-call and I'm sure someone is going to want me for something soon.. but I feel like you would want to know that little girls surgery went well. Then apparently Jemma got to help out Addison today on something, I don't really know what it was Jemma said it as she ran past me in the hallway." Kase smiled at his own talking. "I got to help out Dr. Shepherd, the neurosurgeon. It was fun.."

The intern continued talking, saying different accomplishments the three of Leo's interns had completed as well as things he thought Leo would be happy about. This went on for a little bit until Kase got a page. At that point Kase let the room without saying anything else to anyone about that day
