Zachary Flynn Lee Avery was born 7 weeks premature, on December 17th of 2021.

he spent his very first christmas in the Nicu under careful surveillance surrounded by the people who deemed themselves his family.

there was machine that monitered his tiny little heart beat and a machine that helped him breath.

Flynn Avery opened his eyes for the first time 12 days after his arrival in the world. and the first thing he saw was his parents, bent over his little bed, smiles watery.

Zachary Flynn first cried on january 2nd, 16 days after his birth.

and finally, on january 9th, 2022 He was held by his parents for the first time since his birth and he was released from the hospital.

"he should be all good, you guys can take him home today" The nurse was saying.

"wait, are you sure, he's so tiny. when can we hold him?" Jack asked,
zach was still lying in his hospital bed, working on his own release forms.

he had healed slowly after his surgery and had a couple seizures that the doctors figured out were caused by the pain medication they had administered after the surgery.

it had taken him weeks longer than anticipated to heal, but today he was being discharged as well.

"as soon as the paper work is done and i have the RN take him off the machines, you can hold him for as long as you want." the nurse smiled. Jack was jittery with excitement and nerves. they had only held their baby once before, and it was only for a couple minutes maximum. he was excited to show Zach the apartment he had gotten in the city. the baby room he had decorated in a forrest green base with tans and light academia's . the baby items he had gotten from his friends in the city.

Zach didn't know about the apartment, but he had made his plans of moving to the city clear. and Jack had planned to keep the apartment he had gotten 7 months ago when he left, might as well just add some things to it.

holding his son for the first since his birth was one of the most beautiful and emotional things jack had ever been through. he didn't want to let the baby go, afraid he would just disappear and he'd wake up that this would be a dream.

zach felt too many emotions watching Jack cry over their creation. he could only watch with loving eyes, at the way Jack looked at his son.

Flynn had melted sunlight for eyes and blond hair, and even though he looked a little like an old man, Jack thought he was the cutest thing alive.

"are you ready? i wanted to show you something" Jack asked zach as he finished packing the hospital bags he had accumulated over the weeks. it was basically everything he owned taken out of Jonahs closet. Jonahs sister, Esther had been kind enough to gradually sneak things out of Jonahs room, and it was of course an excuse to see the baby.

"yes, but i think i should hold flynn while you hold my bags" zach smiled teasingly and reluctantly Jack handed their child over.

picking up the bags they headed straight for the elevator. Flynn was sleeping in zachs arms, the softest little clicks indicating the change in his breathing. Zachary Flynn was diagnosed with Stridor, which the doctor explained was harmless and would go away as flynn got older.

but zach loved the little clicking sound, it kept him grounded and reminded him that he was literally holding a life in his hands.

outside the hospital Zach felt the utter exhaustion creeping into his bones. he just wanted to get to the car quickly and rest.
