"what do you mean 'jack avery is back'? did you see him?" daniel questioned loudly.
i winced, shaking my head. we were sat at the back of our favorite ice cream parlor. we used to come here all the time, our freshman and sophomore year. it was junior year when i met jack and all this mess broke out that we stopped going.
i looked around, the place hadn't changed a bit. it was a nostalgic place. reminded me of when i used to sneak out late to come here, because this was the only ice cream place that stayed open 24 hours. year round too.
"no... i haven't"
"then how could you know that he's back?"
"as cool as it would be to say that it's intuition... i drove by the mansion earlier today and saw the lights in the attic on..." daniel gave me a suspicious look.
which i definitely deserved, i still drove by the mansion often, i wasn't really sure why though...
"that could mean anything. maybe his sister is over and is cleaning out his room. did you see his car in the drive way?" i stayed silent. i hadnt seen jacks car in the drive way. i had seen a snow white jeep that seemed like the last vehicle jack would drive.
"i think daniel is right" corbyn started. "you didn't see him or his car, just a light in the room he used to live in... that's not exactly concrete evidence. unless he texts or calls you or you actually see him. i think you shouldn't worry about it."
"yeah," my gaze was turned to daniel now. "you and jonah are doing well. you can't put the stress of jacks possible return on you or the baby. he left you, remember?"
i closed my hand into a fist, "i seem to remember you leaving me as well" i gritted through clenched teeth. i saw him wince and he opened his mouth, he shut it again before looking down. swirling his spoon in his sunday.
"that wasn't to do with you" he whispered. before he looked up and gave me a painstaking smile.
"i'm sorry" he apologized. my eyes rested on him heavily.
"prove it" i said hoarsely, before getting up from my seat. "i have to get home"
i turned without another look at the two of them and left the building walking to my car. well technically it was jonahs. he was letting me borrow it cause he used public transport while he was away at college.
i drove by the mansion purposely, taking the long way home. no lights were on in the house. i saw no car in the driveway.
had i imagined it maybe? i didn't want to think of that. would
it be so bad if he was back? he was the father of my baby after all.i pulled up to jonahs house to find him sitting on the porch. i forgot he said he's be back today. i turned the car off and hopped out of the car, making my way to him. he stood up, grinning wide.
"hey baby" he gave me a sloppy kiss, his hand resting awkwardly on my shoulders. i gave him an uncomfortable smile,
"hello" i breathed. he was different. something had changed. or maybe i was imagining things...
yeah i was probably being paranoid.
"what's got you out so late?" he asked. i almost rolled my eyes. it was nearing 11. which was hardly breaking curfew seeing as i was an adult.
"i was with dani and corbs... something came up"
"dani? is he finally talking to you again?"
"as far as i know" i replied.
