Chapter 25: Promise.

Y/N's POV

Our movie marathon was cut short as Kie and Pope arrived at the Château to hang out, not that me and JJ minded. We all walked out to the front yard and looked at the mess from last night.

Pool floats littered the front yard, as well as fairy lights that had fallen from the tree branches and empty beer cans were scattered across the floor.

"Damn, I partied quite hard last night, didn't I?" JJ chuckled, but there was a bit of sorrow in his tone, both upset and embarrassed his friends had seen him in such a state. I squeezed his hand reassuringly, reminding him that we didn't need to talk about it until he was ready. Smiling gratefully at me, he wrapped an arm around my shoulder and walked to the hot tub, which sat right in the middle of the yard.

We sat on the edge with our feet in the hot tub whilst Kie and Pope tested out the wagon we were going to use to transport the gold. They hooked it to a tree, raising it in the air with Kie sat in it, testing to see how much weight it could handle.

"Do any of you know where John B is?" JJ asked all of us. "Wasn't he meant to go fishing with Ward this morning? He's probably with him," I replied as I rested my head on JJ's shoulder.

"He should be back soon. I've got my scholarship interview tomorrow so we need to get this done," Pope said and as if he was listening, John B walked around the corner.

"Speak of the devil!" JJ exclaimed, but John B ignored him as he talked about the wagon for the gold, instead continuing walking into the Château.

"John B," Kie called out, but he didn't acknowledge her. Me and JJ got out of the hot tub, standing in front of the house with Kie and Pope, all of us with looks of concern on our face.

"What's that all about?" I asked, but they didn't know. We walked into the house to find John B in search for something, though he didn't feel the need to share with us what it was. Pope asked him if he was okay, but he just kept on searching.

"What are you looking for?" I asked as he lifted up the couch cushion, pulling out JJ's gun.

"John B, what do you need the gun for?" JJ questioned, approaching him and trying to stop him from walking off. "Talk to us!" JJ yelled, resulting in John B pushing him away onto the couch.

"Hey, John B, chill!" I yelled, helping JJ up as Pope also tried to stop John B. John B wasn't having any of it and pushed Pope away as well. Me and Kie followed him out of the house as he remained silent.

"John B, what the hell are you doing?" she questioned, worry in her tone. JJ and Pope followed quickly behind us, just in time to see John B sit on JJ's bike, revving the engine as he got ready to drive off.

I hurried down the steps, running to John B with the rest behind me and he finally spoke. "Ward knows about the gold." We all froze in our steps, processing the words he just spoke. "He killed my dad," and with that, he drove off and we ran after him, calling out his name and begging him to stop and think.

It didn't take a genius to figure out what John B had planned- the gun was for Ward, and John B was determined to put a bullet in his head if what he said was true, if Ward had really killed Big John.

"Shit!" I yelled, running my hands through my hair in frustration as I tried to think of ways we could stop John B from making the biggest mistake of his life, one that will feel so good in the moment until reality hits and he'll live the rest of his life in regret.

"What do we do?" Kie asked desperately, all of us portraying the same level of concern for John B. "Get in the boat," I ordered, already making my way down to the dock. They all followed me confused, asking me why. "We're gonna go look for John B and my gut's saying he's at the Cameron house and this will be the easiest way to get there and back undetected," I stopped in my tracks and turned to face them. "Unless you have a better idea?"
