"Excuse me, doctor," Earth had the expression that was saying something like are-you-kidding-me on his face. "I think I heard you wrong."

Lin arched her eyebrows at her patient, "You did not, sir."

"Surely, I did not just hear you say about babies?" Earth tilted his head to the side, distrustful showing clearly on his face.

"Did you not know that you're pregnant?" Lin opened the case files on her hands again, noting that there was no record of the young man doing some check-up on any hospital since a year ago.

Earth looked pretty doubtful at her, "You are pulling a joke on me," he scoffed, finding the situation rather funny now.

Lin looked at her patient's face and shook her head, "I'm not, sir. I checked you with a few of my fellow doctors while you were unconscious."

Earth arched a brow at her answer, "Fellow doctors? Was my condition so bad that I needed more than one doctor?"

Lin again shook her head, "It wasn't that, sir, but your result of pregnancy came up positive."

Earth frowned, not liking the way his doctor persistently said something outrageous about him.

Was this another dream I am having right now?

Earth scrutinized his eyes and pinched his arm, flinching when he felt hurt by doing so. Then, after finding out that this was not a dream, he narrowed his eyes to his doctor, "Were you maybe, had entered a wrong room?"

"I entered the right room, sir. This is the room for mister Earth Katsamonnat Namwirote, is it not?" Lin looked calm despite the storm of confusion that was ragging on her patient's head.

The beta on the bed started to hate what she said because he had been dreaming of having a child of his own for so long. She can't just lie and then said she was pulling a prank on him about a baby. "Perhaps the case files you brought weren't mine?"

Lin stared at her patient in surprise. The young man's responses somehow sounded like a denial, like he believed that what she said was wrong in the first place. Then, she showed the top of the case files for her patient to see his own full name written there. "This is yours, sir."

"You can't pull a prank like this on me, doctor," Earth's eyes started to wet as emotions that had been built up inside him started to let go. He did see his name on the case files, meaning that what his doctor had been saying was the truth.

It still can't be right...

At the thought of it, the foundation that he had constructed in his mind started to crumble on this mere joke he was hearing. It pained him how hopeful he was right now.

"I had an inkling that this was the first time you heard of your pregnancy, so I asked the nurse to place a portable ultrasound machine in your room."

The doctor pointed at something placed on the corner of the room that Earth never noticed before. There was slight confusion shown on his face; what does she want to do?

Lin walked towards the machine and brought it with her, propping it up on the overbed table. "If you allow me to, I can show you so you can see for yourself, sir."

Earth appeared rather hopeful to the mere machine that he was skeptical at first. He became agitated just from the suspense as his fingers gripped the sheet of blanket that covered him in silence. He slowly nodded, feeling not quite himself at the moment when he knew he was too dumb even to believe it for a second.

The beta was staring at his doctor like a hawk as she prepped the machine, and when she asked him to lift the top of the patient pajamas he was wearing, he didn't say anything and did as she asked.
