Pulling Through Together (Lan Zhan x Wei Ying)

A Special Visit

7 months later... 

"You need to work on your stance. Let your foot face the target, and keep your feet shoulder-width apart." Wei Wuxian spoke to one of the Lan clan disciples. 

"Alright.."

"Good. Now try to remember to keep your eye on the target, and then release."

An arrow landed along the blue lines of an archery target. The face of Lan Sizhui lit up in awe at how much better his archery had gotten. Not even moments ago did he land more than 2 arrows during practice.

"Great! That was very good. If you continue to practice like that, you'll be as good as I am!" Wei Wuxian exclaimed with a sense of pride in his voice. He grabbed an arrow from his quiver, stance strong, eyeing the target, he shot a perfect bullseye. His arrow piercing through Lan Sizhui's.

"Whoa." Lan Sizhui admired his Senior very much and learning from him firsthand was an honor. He may not have been the only disciple that was learning, but either way, he enjoyed it.

Wei Wuxian smiled widely and allowed Lan Sizhui to be dismissed with the rest of the juniors. He headed towards the Jingshi soon after.

Once he'd arrived, he had prepared tea and set out some sunflower seeds for his guests that were to arrive soon. It had been too long since he'd seen his beloved shijie and sect leader Jiang Cheng. 

He opened up the floorboards that held Emperor's Smile near the table. A look of mischief seemingly washing over him, he grabbed a couple of jars of the wine and began to open them, but then...someone clears their throat.

Wei Wuxian stops in his tracks and turns to the sudden sound. It was Lan Wangji standing at the entrance of the Jingshi. Wei Wuxian attempts to hide the wine and then clears his throat.

"Oh Lan Zhan, I didn't think you'd be back from cultivating so quickly. Hehe..." He said with a nervous look upon his face.

"We have guests over and I wanted to be here for that." He looks over towards the Emperor's Smile that Wei Wuxian sheepishly hid behind his back. "Wei Ying, you can't-"

"Ugh I know I know, alcohol is prohibited in Gusu. But I just want a taaaaste please?" Wei Wuxian used puppy eyes to get to Lan Zhan sometimes and to break his tough exterior. Sadly, today, it didn't work 😔

He sighed, "Wei Ying, I love you but I don't want you drunk in front of our guests."

"Wh- I'm not a lightweight compared to you! Haha!" 

"I don't know how you could enjoy that, the taste is offputting for me." Lan Zhan still had an expressionless look on him.

"It's amazing!" Stars replaced Wei Wuxian's normal pupils with this remark. Lan Zhan had a light blush on his cheeks. He always loved his husband's bubbly nature.

"I know you like it, but not now."

"Alright...shijie and Jiang Cheng should be arriving any minute now. I did make tea for them and set out some seeds and nuts too."

Wei Wuxian felt as Lan Zhan tensed when he said Jiang Cheng's name. He sighed with a downcast look on his face.

"Honestly, I really wish you two could just get along," he said.

"Mn." Lan Zhan said.

"You both are very important to me" he cupped his husband's cheeks, "Even if you don't want to see or speak to him, can you try to for me? It's only for today, love." 

Lan Zhan took his lover's hands from his face and kissed them tenderly. "I'll do my best."

The two smiled, shared a quick kiss, and headed toward the entrance of the Cloud Recesses. Once at the opening, they spotted the two siblings. Both had large smiles on their face, Jiang Yanli's more than Jiang Cheng.
