"Hmm...do you think the baby will be a boy or a girl?" Wei Wuxian said.
The two were lying on the bed, the shorter's back against the chest of his husband. They were comfortable in their positions, not wanting to move. Lan Wangji was able to spend more time with Wei Wuxian since the news. Lan Xichen thought it would be best, so the Second Young Master hadn't been on any cultivation duties to their benefit.
"A girl.", he said replying to his lover's question.
"Really?" Wei Wuxian would've thought that the other would guess for a boy. The shorter was now rubbing his hands on his belly. He knew he was noticeably more pregnant than he was a month ago and he seemed to enjoy it, though it came with its faults.
"Mn. What do you think?" Lan Wangji was busy playing with his lover's hair that he had begun to braid it with care as to not bother the younger in front of him.
"I was actually thinking the same thing. I've always wanted a girl, but even if it is a boy or twins, I would love them just as much as anything else." A sense of calmness washed over the younger's face when he said this. He really couldn't wait to meet this baby. Or babies.
Lan Wangji, however, had stopped braiding his husband's hair, hesitant to continue. Twins. When he heard that, he wasn't sure he could handle that. What if?...No. We aren't ready for twins right now. He shook this from his head. He was sure it wasn't twins. But what if...
"Darling, what if it really is twins?"
"I think it would adorable. Just two little ZhanZhan's wobbling around on their stubby legs haha." Wei Wuxian let out a small chuckle with this thought.
Lan Wangji didn't feel ready for that just yet, he wasn't sure he would even be a good father, but he didn't voice his concerns to Wei Wuxian. He didn't want to be raining on his parade, and he was happy to see the younger so excited for this new part of their lives.
"Ow-", the younger winced.
"Are you alright? What's wrong? Do you need anything?" Lan Wangji's mind was racing like no tomorrow.
"I'm okay, just...some back pain again-" He stopped short to take a minute before going on, "I think I need to walk around a bit." Wei Wuxian shifted to sit up on the bed before finally standing, one hand on his stomach and another used to push himself up. He let out a small sigh, a bit of annoyance shown as he furrowed his eyebrows.
Lan Wangji moved to walk next to him. He had an idea. "Why don't we walk along the path in Back Mountain?"
"Yeah, that'd be really nice."
The two left the Jingshi after and headed towards Back Mountain. The rabbits, black and white, all hopped in the grass doing as they pleased. They were abundant in size and were adorable as ever. Seeing the rabbits all over made the two happy, especially Lan Wangji.
"Feeling better?" Lan Wangji said.
"Much. Thank you, and I'm sorry about all of this." Wei Wuxian had a sad look on him, the taller not understanding the apology, turned to his husband.
"Why are you apologizing..?"
"Because I know things have been a bit much this past week with me just whining all the time about the back pain and leg cramps I'll get. I don't like feeling like I can't do much in my state, but I don't want to push that on you either..." Wei Wuxian turned to peck his husband on the cheek, now with visible tears on his own.
Lan Wangji had a small blush creep on his cheeks, pecking his husband in return, "There's no need for you to apologize, you're holding our child and that's a lot for anyone. It's alright to feel like things become too much. I know that things will get harder sometimes, but I'll be here for you. I promise."
