20 weeks...
"Why hasn't the baby started kicking yet?.." Wei Wuxian had a worried look on him as he turned to face Lan Wangji, who was preparing the herbal tea again.
"We just have to be patient." Lan Wangji knew that the other was anticipating this moment considering what Wen Qing told them when they went for a check-up a couple of weeks ago. The two remembered how she said that the baby should start kicking or around 18-25 weeks, but Wei Wuxian didn't want to wait that long, and frankly neither did the Lan Wangji.
As the herbal tea was put on a rolling boil, Wei Wuxian tried his best standing from the tea-table. Although he was a bit wobbly, he managed to get on his feet, letting out a sigh of relief. He walked towards the new room they added to the Jingshi, all for the baby.
He smiled as he looked around the room, a charming white varnished crib sat in the corner, and a beautiful pastel blue coating was on every wall. Across from the crib, there was a rocking chair for Wei Wuxian to sit on, while breastfeeding or to put the baby to sleep.
"This room is all for you", he said rubbing his belly. He knew that baby still had another 6 weeks until it would hear him, but he loved talking to it, and he would do it constantly.
"Wei Ying?" Wei Wuxian heard as the other called for him, possibly to serve the tea now.
"Coming!", he said. He continued to inspect the room, touching the walls, the crib, the chair, and finally the few toys that he and Lan Wangji had bought together in the Caiyi Town markets. He mostly eyed the rattle drum, gently picking it up, a soft smile graced his lips. He couldn't be more at bliss than at this moment and knowing he'd have a baby to play with the toy made him happy. He turned to leave the room to drink his tea, looking back at the crib one last time.
Wei Wuxian walked to the tea table, sitting carefully to have space for his stomach. Lan Wangji poured tea for the other, who seemed lost in thought now. The other noticed how he gazed to the outside, seemingly relaxed. He smiled at this.
"You seem especially calm today." Lan Wangji said.
The younger took his tea from the table, blowing on it before taking a sip. He smiled back to his husband afterward, "I feel calm."
"That's good." Lan Wangji now grabbed his tea as well, drinking it slowly.
"You know...we never discussed names yet." Wei Wuxian said, placing his tea down on the table. Lan Wangji looked up at him, a bit of surprise on him.
"No...we haven't."
"Well, maybe we should start thinking of some! Since we don't know the sex yet, we should probably have one for if it's a boy and another for if it's a girl." Wei Wuxian had a cheery look on him now.
"Mn." A stoic look was on him.
Wei Wuxian noticed how the other seemed less excited over this name picking. He tried reaching across the table to grab his husband's hand but his belly got in the way. A bit flushed by it, he decided to scoot to him instead, still embarrassed, but marching on either way.
"What's wrong?" Wei Wuxian laid his head on the Lan Wangji's shoulder, who looked down at their hands intertwining with each other. The older wasn't sure he wanted to talk about his nervousness with name picking and a new father in general, but he didn't want to leave his lover in the dark.
He sighed a bit, "I'm nervous."
Wei Wuxian looked up at him with an understanding smile, "It's okay to be nervous. Why do you feel like that?"
"I don't know if I would be a good father to our baby."
The younger was now worried, he wasn't used to Lan Zhan doubting himself like this. He faced him properly, both hands caressing the taller's cheeks.
