We followed Mya though the snowy hill as snowflakes fell from the air. I almost felt my skin turning icy blue and my heart was beating fast. I knew that a snowstorm must be coming and the snow is falling fast. I might even collapse if I stay in the snow for too long. Lady shivered as I held her in closer for more warmth. She is a warm blooded chicken and her coat of feathers won't be able to let her live in the cold. In the distance, I could see a house from above. The light is the only source that we can see. It must be where Mya had lived here along with her grandmother.
My instincts are telling me to trust this Spine warrior since she wanted to help fix the world like we do.
"So you are the only one left in Spine?" I asked while I followed the Spine warrior.
"Of course. After many people had been turned to stone, I ran. I ran as fast as I could. But this old woman found me and took me in. I was lucky that I survived."
I begin to think for a moment as Lady and Tuk Tuk chittered. Maybe this old woman can accept visitors like since all the Spine warriors are all turned to stone.
"I thought Tong was the only Spine warrior," I replied.
"I know. But I am sure this will help."
"Are you sure she will accept us?" Liu asked, shivering.
"Of course," Mya said. "It doesn't matter what different clan we live in.
As we finally got here, Mya knocked on the door. "Granny. Can you open up? It's me! I got some company."
The door opened and there stood an old woman in a soft fur coat. She seemed pleased. "Oh, Mya. You have come home safe and sound."
"Yep. And I got some new people who survived," Mya said gladly.
The old woman looked at me. For a few seconds, she suddenly knew me from her early years. "You've grown up bigger than I thought. Strong, healthy and brave," she said, smiling. I began to blush before I took my coat off.
"It's nice to meet you, ma'am," I softly said.
It took us some time to introduce myself and Liu to the kind old woman who led us into her home. The house seemed very nice, with a portrait from above, a table, a bed, and some old Spine Flags. The old woman started making dinner through the night. I haven't got a meal ever since my family had turned to stone. Also, this was my first time being with another clan who lived in the outskirts of the clan. It wasn't that much, but it kept my strength going up. Mya gave some corn to Lady to feed on, while she heated the young hen up and fruit for Tuk Tuk.
"I am surprised that I remembered you..." Granny said to me, remembering that day when the clans visited heart for a feast six years ago. "But back then, you were so little when it happened."
I stopped slurping on my soup when I heard this. The woman remembered me once.
"What do you mean?" Mya asked.
For a moment, the old woman held up a small teddy bear in her hands that had belonged to a child once as I stared at the dragon portrait of Sisu. She sighed until she had some flashbacks in her head when the clan used to be at peace with Dragons for five hundred years. "It was a peaceful clan. Our clans had been separated from one another after the dragons disappeared. They wanted all the magic of their own and wanted to steal the gem. But I never could have foretold what came next..."
I begin to think about this. I remember that many people had been turned to stone completely, killing many along the way. A few survivors started to run away and hide from the Druun since they had lost their lovers. There I imagined Sisu with her family surrounded by a sea of Druun. All of the other dragons who tried to save humanity have all turned to stone and died. Now there were only five dragons left. Her brother, Pengu knew they had to save their last magic and save the world from destruction. Using a pool of water collected from the rain, Pengu scooped some up and absorbed his power inside. His sisters and brother, Amba, Pranee, and Jagan gave their powers to it too, creating the Dragon Gem. They gave it to Sisu, believing that she could save their world before they were turned to stone. With her siblings turned to stone, Sisu used her gem and blasted the Druun away.
This is why I never knew Sisu's origin. All of the people who died, those poor dragons who tried everything to save humanity. So many sad memories.
"Your story may not have such a happy beginning... " the old woman said. "But that does not make you who you are. It is the rest of your story... who you choose to be.."
"I see," I said, before taking another sip. I almost felt my heart ache in pain as I recall those memories inside my own hair. I almost felt tears trickle in my eyes. I can't believe that Sisu and her siblings sacrificed themselves to save Kumandra, but with no dragons in our world, the Druun had taken over the world.
For a moment, Granny begins to think more about the past. "Come to think of it. I heard a voice when I was a young girl. I sense that in the future 1,000 years, a voice has been called for help. I heard it in my mind."
A voice? I thought. Something was telling me to look at something that might be able to work. If that voice that old woman said is telling the truth, then it has to make me trust her. I looked at a portrait on the wall and saw that it was a small green fairy picking a berry from a tree.
The fairy in the portrait looks pretty and queen-like, and the wings on its back are shiny and long, and it has a charmful smile of an angel. As I looked at it, I began to hear its cry.
It felt so real. It's like I can almost hear it. The cry that echoes in the forest of Heart and the sight of her sparkling blue eyes. I begin to imagine what it would be like if there was a world peace. The clans would be reunited together with dragons and fairies by our side and the gem glowing brightly back into its former glory. I looked down and saw some writing under the portrait. They're words written in sky blue colors.
"Seek within the person with the rainbow in the eye and the Celebi will glow. Stoke up the magic in the gem... then watch the sparkle swirls that spin so well."
"What does it all mean?" I asked curiously.
"It's a prophecy that will be fulfilled by someone."
"Maybe it could be any of us," I guessed.
"No," Granny muttered. "It has to be someone else for the next 1,000 years."
"What did you see?" Liu asked, both her pixie cut hair and coat shivering.
"I see a beautiful creature we have never seen. Hair that is blue and short, a shell stuck in her body, and a pink glowing eye of diamonds. It was a female who can control water and fly. She was wearing a crystal that is connected to that gem you are holding."
"So it wasn't any of us. Then who is it?" I asked.
"I don't know. But I do know that we're still going to be in danger," the old woman said softly. "With every dragon gone, the world will be plunged into darkness."
I begin to think. I knew this very well and I believe it was the Druun.
"I bet it's the Druun," I begin to remember.
"The Druun?" Granny wondered. "What is that?"
"A swirling darkness of purple mist," I said coldly. I still can see them in my vision ever since, "They consume all life on earth and leave nothing but stone and ash. My mother and sister died in my kingdom."
The chill came from Mya as she heard this. Her eyes were wide with fear when I said that the Druun took over my kingdom.
"So it is true," Granny said softly. "The Druun took everything away from us."
I begin to rub my tears away. I knew that the people of Kumandra would pay the price of breaking the Dragon Gem. I looked at the gem and began to think. Maybe... Just maybe... I begin to stand up. "Hey Mya, Granny, will you come with us?"
Mya and Granny started to get worried. They had never been outside of Spine before, and no matter what, they can't leave the stone people alone in this dark void.
"What? What if the Druun catches us?" Mya worriedly asked. I slowly put my coat back on before I answered. "It won't. They might be catching up to us soon in the south."
"The other clans don't mind letting you come," Liu said. "It's Ko's hope of reuniting everyone together."
The two Spine warriors didn't know what to say. They never went outside through the long journey to their new homeland. But I beamed happily and urged them to follow.
