Chapter 22: His Family

Bright white light. Eyesight still a little blurry. He slowly looks around, eyes half-open. What happened yesterday..?

"SANS! HE'S AWAKE!" Gaster flinches in surprise. He looks to his left and saw his creation. Two skeletons starring at him, one with a relieved expression, one with a grumpy look. "W..What happened..?" The scientist asks "YOU FELL ASLEEP SO WE CARRIED YOU HERE!" Papyrus's face turned into worry "A-ARE YOU OK..?" Gaster slowly remembers what happened but the headache is back again, a small grumble left his mouth "But why..? Why would you carry me here when you can just take that as an opportunity to escape..?" Papyrus gently smiled at him "BECAUSE YOU'RE FAMILY!"

Gaster remembers his family. His old life. His parent's sweet smile. Their laugh. The fake glasses and white coat that they gave him when he was a child, supporting his love for science. Their playful fighting, their sad moments, how they catch him when he falls and put him on his feet again, cheering for him.

Loving him, even with his flaws.

"D..DAD? WHY ARE YOU CRYING?" Gaster looked down at his hand. Tears... He was crying. His body trembles once tears came down, his hands shaking, wiping his tears using his sleeve "I..Im sorry.." A heavyweight rests upon his body. Remembering all he has done to the innocent, makes him feel disgusted by himself. He feels his sins crawling on his back, but a warm feeling was replaced after a short moment. He opens his eyes, seeing his creation, hugging him with a smile "YOU DON'T HAVE TO APOLOGIZE, DAD, THE GOOD NEWS IS YOUR BACK" Gaster shook his head "I d-don't want to hurt you two anymore.. but Im scared that I won't be able to control myself.." Papyrus took his hands "THEN WE WILL LOOK AFTER YOU! WE CAN TAKE CARE OF YOU AND HELP YOU HEAL!" Gaster shook his head once more "B..But what if-" Papyrus cuts him off "DAD, WE ARE HERE FOR YOU. IF SOMETHING HAPPENS IN THE FUTURE, WE WILL BE THERE READY TO HELP AND FORGIVE YOU.. SO DON'T WORRY TOO MUCH.." Papyrus hugged him tightly. Gaster slowly broke down, hugging him back. He took a glance at Sans, who was glaring at him the whole time. It made him feel even more guilty.

They let go. Gaster wipes his tears away and looked down "..How can I make it up to both of you..?"
"if you rot in hell."
"SANS!" Sans flinched and looked at his brother. Whoops, he didn't mean to say that out loud "sorry.."  Papyrus sighed, and looked at the scientist "HMM, MAYBE WE CAN HAVE A SMALL DINNER TOGETHER?" Gaster looked up and nods his head. He stands up, and bowed down "Again.. I'm really sorry for everything..." Papyrus only smiled at him, then watched him walk away. He was about to follow when Sans tugged his brother's arm "HMM?"  "are we seriously just gonna forgive everything he did to us?" Papyrus holds his hand "..SANS, I KNOW IT IS DIFFICULT, BUT AT LEAST GIVE HIM A CHANCE..?" Sans grumbled "PLEASE?" He let out a heavy sigh "fine." Papyrus cheered and hugged his brother who hugged back.

They walked the long hallway to get to the kitchen. He saw the scientist cooking their favorite food. He placed the food down the table. The skeletons sat down and ate in silence.
"...." Okay, this is getting awkward. Papyrus broke the silence "THANK YOU FOR THE MEAL!" Gaster gently smiled at him "You're welcome Papyrus.. Maybe we can even play some games after? Like how we used to." Papyrus excitedly smiled and nods his head "THAT WOULD BE AMAZING!!" Sans saw this expression. He rarely sees him this happy anymore, he sighed. Alright, maybe he'll actually give this guy a chance. Sans felt a tug on his shirt, he looked to his right, both skeletons starring at him "hmm?" "WE WERE ASKING IF YOU WOULD WANT TO JOIN US?" Papyrus was waiting for his answer, hoping he'd say yes. Sans gave him a smile "sure" He cheered, raising both his arm in the air. Sans chuckles at this.

He'd do anything, as long as Papyrus is happy.
