Chapter 8
I didn’t scream, I couldn’t no words would come out of my mouth. The hand on my shoulder didn’t seem to be moving; only seemed to get tighter. I yelp made its way out of my mouth, before I could even register what was happening I was spun around to face light blue/grey eyes. I let out the breath I had been holding when I came face to face with Noah.
“Hey Marie, calm down it’s just me. Are you okay?” he said giving my shoulders another squeeze. I let out another whimper, the skin on my shoulders, right at the top of my arms and stomach were still red raw from last night, they were the places that I don’t show anyone so is scrubbed them more. His eyes glazed over with worry, I couldn’t let him find out. He would tell Melissa and she would tell my parents, no he couldn’t know.
“What’s the matter? Why did you wince?” he was about the pull my jumper over my shoulder. I started to panic and jumped back.
“What I didn’t wince, you just scared me that’s all” good Marie play it cool.
“No after you saw it was me, I pressed your shoulder and you whimpered. Are you hurt? Let me look” again he tried pulling my jumper down again.
“NO! I’m fine” I pulled back, he looked a little shocked before a smirk made its way on to his face. Before I could even move another step, I felt an arm wrap around my body locking my arms to my side. I flew back and landing into a firm chest.
“Now don’t lie to your future brother in law, let me have a look” his voice was low and dangerous. Wait did he just say future brother? He obviously doesn’t know my sister and he will only last a few months before she moves on. I was brought back out of my thoughts when I felt the cold wind on my shoulder.
“Oh Marie, that looks painful. How did you do that?” his voice was now back to normal but I could still something behind it. “Well if you’re not going to talk to me and help, I will just have to tell your parents.”
“NO! Please don’t, they can’t know please.” I struggled out of his arms to face him. They couldn’t know, maybe I could tell him and he could keep it a secret. It was my only hope, no way was my parents finding out. It would upset them, I couldn’t do it. They were so happy this morning this would only disappoint them.
“What why not?” This time his voice sounded curious.
“They can’t know please, you can’t tell them. I’m begging you.”
“Fine I won’t tell them, but I still don’t know what it is I cannot tell.” Come on Marie tell him, he just said he wouldn’t tell.
“You can’t tell no one not a soul, especially not my sister, you have to promise.” Some kind of emotion flickered in his eyes, I don’t know what it is but I know it isn’t something good. But he’s my only shot.
“I promise not to tell a soul now what is it?” I took a deep breath looking in his eyes again, they seemed worried and concerned. He made me want to trust him, so I did.
“I did it to myself, I rubbed the scrubbing brush hard on my skin.” As soon as I said it, I couldn’t look into his eyes. I felt his hands under my chin making me look back at him.
“Why?” was the only thing he said, I don’t know how to explain why I did it. If I told him he would know I’m being bullied and then what would lead to something else.
“Look you only told me to tell you how I did it, not what the cause of it was”
“Oh but now I’m making that part of the deal, otherwise I will have to tell.” This time there was a smirk on his face, he knew he had won.
