Today was the last day students could stick around before the last train left the station. Most students had left for the holidays while I sat on my bed reading a book the librarian suggested before she left for the holidays earlier today. A knock on my door and I was up on my feet seeing the twins looking reluctant to leave for the train.
"I thought Christmas was a fun celebration?" I questioned in a more joking manner. They smiled. Fred glanced behind them before stepping into the room followed by George.
"It won't be without you darling." George gave me a sad look and I rubbed the back of my neck.
"I'm sure your mum will make up for that with her cooking. It sounds nice to have a normal family. A happy one." My sentence made the pair stop for a second.
"Then come with us. We'll have a great time." I shook my head sighing and they already knew id say no. It's all I've been doing the past three days. But they did know why.
"What are you going to do?" Fred asked and I shrugged my shoulders.
"I guess read most of the time. There's no school work to do."
"Come on (y/n) you need a new hobby." I frowned at fred crossing my arms. Readings all I've ever been able to do for fun my entire life.
"Over the break try something fun. Like flying." George said.
"Or maybe work on hypnosis. That'll be great for pranks... Not that you'll be a part of any." Fred raised his hands at the end seeing my raised eyebrow. The pair chuckled taking turns to hug me.
"We'll be back before you know it." George brushed some hair from my face kissing me softly. I didn't want them to leave. Fred kissed me next and then with a shout from Ron down the stairs the pair had to go.
"A new hobby?" I questioned myself thinking of what to do.
-----
From what I could tell there were only a few students around the halls. Most of which tried to avoid me. I spent the following week trying to decide what hobby to start or whether I needed a new hobby at all. But in the end, I decided on sketching. At least then I can say I tried. Christmas was only a day away now and students were excited about a feast of some description. While I stayed away from the larger groups of people to one of the clock towers to draw.
"That's a very nice talent you have there." It was Dumbledore. We hadn't spoken since the night I came here. He was referring to the incomplete pen sketch I was making of the sunset and surrounding mountains.
"Oh, I uh just picked this up a few days ago. Apparently, I need a new hobby." He smiled continuing to look at the drawing for a moment longer.
"A request from the Weasley boys I'm guessing." Nodding I gave him a tight-lipped smile, butterflies raised in my stomach at the mention of them. "They're a good influence on you." He commented hands going to the railing of the clock tower. I glanced up at him.
"How so?"
"Vampires are known for being heartless killers and are never taught how to love. The Weasleys have a relaxing manner." He's right of course. The only person I've felt care for me is my mother. Who was killed for letting me take secret classes?
"I'm not even sure if I know what love is professor." I breathed out looking at the last glimpse of light before it was dark out.
"If you ask them I'm sure they'll help you understand. The feast is starting soon, you should get ready." Nodding in response Dumbledore left soon after leaving me to think about what he said before going to dinner.
----
The next morning I woke up late. Not really thinking anything of this apparently special day. Changing into some different clothes and doing up my hair I went down to the common room with a hot cup of tea id made in my room. There was a tree to my surprise and something under it. At first, I thought perhaps it was for the other boy in my house got a gift but I saw wrapping paper already on the floor. Picking up the envelope I set myself down on the couch opening it up. It was a letter.
Dear my beloved (y/n),
I wish I was able to be there when you were born. As did your mother. We tried so hard to run from our pasts but it seems some things can't be broken.
It was never my plan to write such a letter to you but from what I can tell I've only got a few days left. Vampires as I knew them from school were heartless dark creatures that you need to keep away for their nature was always evil. Then I met your mother. Such a beauty, as vampires were said to be to draw you in but she never wanted blood. She saved me. I've always been a troublesome man and yet at that moment, something clicked.
Vampires are meant to mate with other vampires. Half breeds are said to be more dangerous, with the ability of both a wizard and a vampire is too strong.
You (y/n) are just like your mother. I'll never meet you but I already know you'll be a beautiful kind and brave person. No matter who thinks otherwise is not looking past your title.
Love your father.
And when finishing I tilted the envelope to see a necklace a jewel that was clear but with a single drop of blood. His blood holding it up to the light it shone slightly and I smiled putting it on to rest with my dorm room key. I'll never take it off.
