"Good morning, agent Jones. We got an easy one for you to handle today." Sidra's chief said snidely. Sidra rolled her eyes at his unnecessary remark, knowing that her coworkers, especially her boss, had a tendency to tease her.
Because she was the youngest investigating agent the station has ever had, this gave all the other men that worked with her, along with a few jealous women to cosign, a leeway to make fun of her and try to insult her intelligence. But she knew that had more to do with them than her, so she tried not to give it attention.
It also didn't help that her father was one of the most powerful judges in their state, so that only lead everyone to assume that was how she earned her position at the age of 24. She was incredibly smart and skipped two grades, but nobody else seemed to give her the credibility she deserves and earned.
"Give it to me nice, chief." She said confidently, even though she dreaded whatever fluff case he was going to dump on her like usual just because he didn't want to deal with it.
"You might know of this dumbass, but we've been tracking him for months and it hasn't been hard seeing as he's a fucking international superstar." He scoffed, slapping the case file down on her desk.
Sidra's brows furrowed as she looked at the case file marked 'confidential' on her desk.
"Name's Abel Tesfaye, professionally known as the Weeknd. We've been tracing his business and personal bank accounts, as well as connections to his contacts and it seems like he's involved in, if not, directly linked to an international robbery of a priceless historical artifact we've been tracing for almost a year now. You'd think he'd be satisfied with all the money he makes already." He explained and Sidra nodded in agreement.
"What makes you think I know of this man, sir?" Sidra questioned skeptically, raising a brow.
"Because apparently, he makes music for your age demographic and he's famous. I sorta figured." He said sheepishly and Sidra nodded before rolling her eyes and picking up the case file and opening it to read through. Of course he would assume that.
"Sounds interesting. I'll look into it, thanks for debriefing me." She mumbled and he shook his head and walked away.
"No problem. Have fun." He teased and she narrowed her eyes at him as he walked away.
"Asshole." She mumbled under her breath as soon as he was out of hearing distance.
She read through the file and started her investigation process as she input his information into the system. She furrowed her brows at the singer's profile. He had a history of aggravated assault, homelessness, and a lot of other things that could have motivated a greedy robbery. She scoffed as she flipped through his personal pages, reading over his family history and business endeavors since he first got tangled with the law when he was 15. She shook her head at the pointless case, knowing for sure the singer would be detained by the end of the month.
With someone as famous as him at this point in his career, there would be no way that the news that he's being tracked by the FBI for illegal money laundering and robbery wouldn't leak by the end of the month. And of course, the chief dumped this type of case on her. The dreaded matter of her having to babysit this popstar into giving her the information she needed made her groan in annoyance.
She looked over the file once more until she got to the investigative photos to see how much he's changed and grown since the last time she laid eyes on him so many years ago when he first became famous. Of course she heard of him, who hasn't? But she wasn't going to give her boss another reason to taunt her for being the youngest detective in the department, and dealing with a case so trivial would make her a definite target.
