It's been a month since Sidra and Abel met, and a month since Abel signed off on the trade documents for the ship carrying the golden artifact to the Canadian border. He couldn't risk the cargo hold being anywhere near U.S. ports for the same reason he couldn't risk the young agent being anywhere he couldn't see her.
The superstar felt justified in his actions towards Sidra ever since he laid eyes on her. He knew exactly what he was getting himself into because he was confident that this robbery would be his first and last attempt to secure his wealth long after his career in the industry was over. He was always drawn to ancient artifacts that meant something, either in history or to the people of his culture.
But this specific ankh was a rare piece that's been growing in its worth since the 1800s and is now valued at 4.8 billion dollars. That's exactly why he felt justified. The mere fact that he already obtained the ankh was enough motivation for him to do as he pleased within the next couple of months. Everything after extracting it from the palace was more than a cakewalk, especially since he's been planning this for 3 years now.
Because of his celebrity status, the team he comprised of trusted family members and friends insisted that he had no parts of the heist once the ankh was in their possession. All he had to do from that point on was keep a low profile and sign off on the share documents once they got shipped in.
So he continued to do as he pleased until that time came. Fucking around with the lead investigator on the case he was the main suspect in wasn't a part of his plans for laying low, but it still made him feel like he was helping his case from the inside, regardless of her shady attitude.
It gave Abel one less thing to worry about once the papers finally got here. He wanted her as a distraction, so he was more than ready to do anything to derail her from trying to get something out of him if she attempted.
Sidra wanted to push him on any past information he may have had that could've sparked a conversation about the heist, but she managed to refrain until she got more feasible intel. As far as she knew, his phone call may have just been personal. And it was with this thought that she spent the rest of her day at work, chewing on the inside of her cheek until it started to bleed.
She mindlessly typed through the minor cases she was given, ignoring the red exclamation point over the file marked "Weeknd". A month of getting nowhere was starting to get to her and her newly assigned partner was starting to notice.
Terrance looked up from his computer that he now had stationed in her bigger office, watching as she chewed nervously on her lip. He swallowed before speaking, knowing how testy the young agent could be. "Hey, are you okay?" He asked calmly, watching as her attention never broke from her computer screen. She remained silent.
He cleared his throat a little to save himself the embarrassment of her possibly not hearing him and she looked up from what she was doing to look at him.
"What? Yeah, no, I'm fine. Just trying to keep myself busy." She said and he nodded at her before looking back to his own minor case that he was working on.
"You don't wanna share the workload?" He asked sweetly and she resisted the urge to roll her eyes at him. He was only trying to do his job. The same job that she was starting to bullshit on because of her reluctance to commit to taking Abel down. She felt stuck and it was starting to discourage her. Her partner could see that clearly for himself.
"Um, yeah, actually. I was wondering if you could help me on this angle I'm in the process of building for the case." She answered abruptly and his brows furrowed at her request. Sidra wasn't usually the type of person to ask for help, and even though Terrance had only been with the agency for 9 months, he noticed that much. He even took note of the gossip that went around about her being spoiled and unworthy of her position at the bureau.
