"Look at this! How is this not the craziest shit you've ever seen?!" Yelled Remus, practically shoving the glass boot in his dads face.
"Okay Remus, I get it, you can get it out of my face now." The king pushed it away.
"Sorry! It's just— I've been up all night thinking about him!" "Really? I hadn't noticed." "This is serious dad, I need to find him.".
The king groaned "fine, I'll announce it to the public." Remus jumped up in down in joy, hardly being able to contain his excitement.
The announcement that Remus was looking for a handsome prince who mysteriously disappeared last night spread far through out the kingdom, everyone was losing their minds about it, the thought of Remus using the shoe was silly but it was the only real clue they had about him.
Logan's joy was immense, he never realized he would be so happy over a shoe but here he was, racing home from the market place with his step brothers to go home and grab his slipper so he could run off with Remus and get the happily ever after he so badly deserved.
On his way home he started thinking of all the exciting probabilities of his future, he could run off with Remus and see far off lands, he could finally run far away from Patton and Roman and pay Picani back for all the support he had given him over the years, he could even let Virgil come with them if he wanted to, everything was going to be so peachy from here on out if he could just get that shoe.
He barged through the front doors of the house, enthusiastically telling his whole family of the princes plan and Patton looked like he was losing his mind.
Logan flung the kitchen door open and starting searching the kitchen for it, 'funny' he thought 'I could of sworn I put it in-' "looking for something?" Roman evilly asked, holding a delicate glass boot in one hand as he playfully leaned against the kitchen door.
Logan's face of terror said it all, Roman just stood there, smiling like a kid on Christmas morning.
"Well, isn't this just the prettiest thing ever? Would you tell me where you found it? There must be such a good story to it and I love a good fairytale." Roman playfully tossed it around in his hands like it was a ball, knowing fully well how much it put Logan on edge.
"How did you-" "Oh please Cinders, you're not nearly as smart as you think you are, I knew you and Picani snuck off to talk about something, all it took was me searching through this dingy little kitchen and boom, you were caught red handed...".
Logan was being very careful to watch what he said, any little thing could set Roman off in a fit of rage and all it would take was one smashed shoe and all Logan's plans for the future would be shattered into millions of tiny pieces on the ground.
Hesitating, Logan mumbled "what do want from me?" "To stay out of it." "But- if you let me marry Remus you'll be related to royalty-" "Either Patton or Virgil get the throne or no one does, I'd rather see no one get married than see you mingle with royalty.".
Logan's mouth hung open, he squinted in disbelief that not even being used as a pawn to get political power was enough for Roman.
"Why do you hate me so much?" He asked, Roman just stared at him "Me? Hate you?" "Yes!" Yelled Logan "Nobody deserves to be treated like you and Patton treat me! You've bullied me ever since I was a kid and you've never given me an ounce of love! Never!".
"I don't hate you Logan." "What?!" "You're not even a thought in my head, I don't waste my energy on hating people as insignificant as you.".
Logan took a minute to process what he was saying "But- you hit me-" "I do that because you act out of line, if you just did what you were told I could have easily forgot about you but no, you have to make everything complicated.". Logan felt empty, not sad, not angry, just empty, "I have done everything have asked of me! Yet you still deny me the only thing I have ever wanted!" "Oh? And what is that?" Roman asked, grimacing. "What do you think? You are the only parent I have left now. You're supposed to protect and love me." There was was a long stretch of silence. "Was there ever a time, before all of this, that you saw me as family? Where you really loved me?". Roman tapped his foot and thought, folding his arms, "How could anyone love a pebble in their shoe?" He responded, stiff and emotionless as always. Those words cut Logan like a knife, there was nothing he could say in response. No argument, no reasoning. All Logan could do was just tearily nod in agreement.
After a long pause, Roman cleared his throat "Anyways, I just wanted to thank you for your little contribution, if you didn't go and trick that prince into loving you we might not have our foot in the door like we do now- or should I say, our foot in the shoe.
Really Logan, it was quite spectacular, you even almost convinced me into thinking his feelings were real, of course that was before I remembered that you couldn't have been honest with him.".
He playfully tossed the boot up a little and caught it with his hands, Roman attempted to march back out the kitchen door but Logan stopped him, lunging at him in an attempt to get the slipper.
A struggle ensued, the two rough housed in that dirty kitchen for god knows how long and then in an instant, Logan's hands were so shaky he ended up fumbling the shoe, making it shatter to a ton of frail pieces on the ground.
Roman threw him against the wall and locked him in the kitchen, promising that he would figure out what to do with him later.
For now, Roman had to prepare for the prince, if he wanted some one who fit the shoe he was gonna get somebody who fit the fucking shoe.
