It was a dark stormy day in the kingdom of Elphe, the kind of stormy day where the thunder sounded like a giant monster tearing apart the heavens and the brief flashes of lightning reached across the sky in an electrifying display of the earths elements.
You would have to be crazy to travel in a storm like this, groggy and gloomy with heavy rain that spread across the whole kingdom.
Against all odds though there was still a carriage passing by holding two very important guests inside of it.
The carriage gently rocked side to side in a rhythmic fashion as it sped through the palace ground and towards the steps before stopping.
The carriage was beautiful, covered in gold and with nice red satin interior, it was unbelievably fancy, it had to be of course since it came from a monarch and lord knows King Thomas would never let his guests arrive out of style.
Suddenly our mystery guests stepped out and gazed around at their surroundings in pure awe, before realizing they better hurry inside unless they wanted to be struck by lightning. These special guests were definitely odd choices for King Thomas to invite to the palace, even though the king was known to be childish it was hard to imagine him having any sort of business with the brothers Grimm.
The famous fairytale collectors had certainly seen many odd characters before, telling stories about mermaids and cursed apples and rumors of princes switching places with paupers.
A lot of them were purely from Wilhem who seemed to bring strange characters and trouble where ever he went, considering the fact he never seemed to listen to anything his brother Jacob said it was bound to happen, but this was way different.
Jacob could only dread and lament over what Wilhelm had to have done now to anger a monarch from country they weren't even from.
As the brothers entered the palace they were shocked and stunned, it was even more beautiful than the outside and each and every staff member was incredibly polite and well mannered.
As they lead the two of them down a corridor and up stairs they didn't say a word but merely guided their way to the King's bedroom.
Once they entered they were greeted by King Thomas, he was handsome and sweet looking, the picture perfect image of a king and had a voice that was perky and yet very smooth.
It made the brothers feel as though they could instantly trust him, probably why Thomas had so many loyal subjects. The guy was just impossible to hate.
Thomas eagerly walked up to them and shook their hands.
"It's great to finally meet you, sorry to make you come on such short notice but I was just so excited to talk to you!".
Jacob smiled a bit, thinking this had to just be some fan meet up or something while Wilhelm was still amazed by the surroundings.
"I read your fairytale collection." Said Thomas, grabbing a book from the nearby shelf, "where do you get your stories?" he asked.
"Well we usually just hear of them from word of mouth, sometimes we add our own little twists to the stories but we mostly just keep them as is." Jacob responded proudly.
"Ah I see, well I've taken a lot of interest in one particular story... the one about the girl with glass shoes.".
Wilhelm's face practically lit up as he inserted himself into the conversation.
"It was my idea to add it! Though you can thank our buddy Charles for the glass slippers, I was kinda hesitant about them but he insisted!".
Thomas nodded along happily before gently mumbling "I suppose glass slippers do sound unrealistic.".
As the king and the brothers continued to talk a young maid walked in holding an ornate wooden box, handing it to Thomas.Thomas grinned at it "you say you get your stories from rumors but you never stop to wonder where the rumors started." He uttered, before placing the box on a nearby dresser and unlocking it.
He reached inside of it and pulled out a shimmery and shiny object, a glass shoe.
It was tinted a dark blue and was made out of only the finest Venetian glass, the only thing that wasn't made out of glass was the sock liner made out of fine satin which made it soft enough that some one could walk in it comfortably.
It twinkled and shimmered, glowing ever so delicately in the dim light of the room, the brothers stood there completely awe struck, it looked like it was plucked straight out of a picture book.
The brothers were so awestruck they barely even noticed that it was neither a slipper or a women's shoe.
It was a men's boot.
Thomas looked at it affectionately as if he was remembering something very fondly, his gaze broke away from the shoe for a second to look up at the brothers again.
"His name was Logan" he paused for a moment "and this was his glass "slipper".".The brothers were positively shocked and tried to stammer out a response before Thomas told them to listen for a moment.
"You've told tons of people your stories, it's time I tell you one of mine.".
"Wait so the story it's-" king Thomas cut Jacob off.
"Yes, although it's much different than you remember... now what's that phrase you two use? Ah, yes... once upon a time...".
