The ball was gorgeous, tons of men and women all mingling in the ballroom as other people started to arrive.
Roman reveled in all the attention, when it came time for the door man to announce their names, Roman told him to announce them as "Baron Roman Tremaine and his sons." and walked off.
Patton leaned over and whispered to the door man "I'm the amazingly handsome and funny Patton.", the door man rolled his eyes but announced it to the crowd anyways.
This was definitely not the first and it probably wouldn't be the last self aggrandizing introduction he would have to sit through tonight so he certainly wasn't gonna start back talking about it now.
Virgil looked over to him with his dead inside eyes thoroughly unimpressed "And I'm virgil... the uh... cool.", honestly, compared to what his brother had just asked, the doorman could really appreciate a guy who just wanted to be called cool instead of something so extravagant and happily obliged.
Prince Remus sat on the much smaller throne that was squashed in between his parents, reserved specifically for him, he would have much rather just stood at the door waiting for Logan but his parents had told him to stay put until he danced with some one.
'This is so stupid' Remus thought 'why would they throw this thing if they didn't want me walking around at it?'.
Remus stared down at his hands that were now slightly trembling, he was lucky that everyone was too spaced out or far away from him to notice his shaky palms.
He was terrified to see Logan, he really shouldn't have been, this was the same guy who he had fallen asleep in the arms of not so long ago and had lengthy talks about plants that smell like rotting corpses, he had no reason to stress.
There was still a deep underlying fear though, who's to say he wouldn't freak out at the sight of a prince and run away? It's kind of a sudden thing to spring on some one.
Suddenly, Remus felt a hand on his shoulder, it was his dad.
"Remus, I wanna talk about something." Said the king.
"It's about your little outburst in my office, I've had time to think about it and this university idea is.... well it's great, and it's made me think about how I've been treating you.
The whole reason I wanted to marry you off was because I thought you needed some responsibility, you've really been... floundering.
I just wanted to tell you that, we don't have to do anything you don't want to, you don't have to get married.".
Remus relaxed in his chair "Really? Thank god." "With that said though... maybe if wouldn't kill you to get out there and dance with some of the men out here?".
Remus instinctively rolled his eyes and blushed "Daaaaad" "I'm just saying!".
Remus rose from his chair and he started walking towards the crowd of people.
Meanwhile, Patton and Virgil stood near a buffet table with their dad, Virgil stuffed his face full of food because... well... what else did you expect him to do at a party.
He noticed that the cutlery was actually pretty fancy but when he tried to "borrow" it, his hand was grabbed by Patton.
"You can't steal from here." "Why not?" "Because stealing from here is stealing from me in the future." Virgil forced Patton to let go and then stuck his tongue out at him.
Patton noticed the prince walking towards the crowd and nudged everyone out of the way to make sure he was the first person he saw, Remus's eyes instantly gravitated towards the boy in bright turquoise.
Remus had to admit, the guy was pretty as pie, with rosy cheeks covered with freckles and a cute button nose that rested a thick pair of circular glasses on top of the bridge of it, you would be hard pressed to find some one who wouldn't feel drawn to dance with him.
"Good evening, your highness." Said Patton, bowing.
"It's nice to meet you, what's your name?" "Sir Patton Atticus Augustine Dominic Tremaine." Patton sweetly said.
Remus was caught by surprise "Who the hell walks around with four first names?!" Patton was confused, he looked at him incredulously.
This is definitely not the way he had planned to first meet the prince.
"Sorry it's just- wow- am I supposed to call you all of those?" "Just Patton's fine your highness.".
Remus wasn't too keen on the annoying "your highness" talk, "you know you can just call me Remus." he said.
"Sorry, your highness." quickly replied Patton, Remus rolled his eyes and sighed.
"So what do you think of the food?" "Oh, I haven't tried any of it yet, your highness." "Well that's unfortunate, the food is the best part of every ball." all of a sudden Patton started laughing.
"I apologize for the outburst your highness, it's just, the only person I know who would say something as piggish as that is my puny brother.
He's a total weirdo and I can't help but laugh anytime I see something that reminds me of him." Remus was intrigued, mostly because he was confused as to why Patton would just bring this up "Why is he a weirdo?" asked Remus.
Patton started to rant about Virgil "Yeah he's always so depressed about everything that he always eats something to 'help him cope' but to be honest I think he just wants an excuse to be a slob and then act like a big cry baby, he's so embarrassing sometimes, I've asked my dad if he's adopted and no matter how many times I ask him I just don't believe that he isn't.".
At this point, Remus had already had enough of Patton, anybody who would say something like that about their own family just because they are depressed is obviously not some one that can be trusted.
It's amazing, really, they started talking because Remus thought he was absolutely gorgeous, now he was pretty sure he was the most repulsive man in the room.
"That's... nice... anyways I'm gonna go get some punch now.... alone." Remus awkwardly scooched away from the boy, leaving him confused and somewhat infuriated.
Patton sheepishly walked back to his dad and brother, Virgil snickered a little.
"Wow Pat, just wow, you're back so soon! That's an all new speed run for gaining a royal husband! Oooh! Or maybe you're just playing hard to get, he must of been so instantly smitten with you you had to pry him away!" Virgil joked, Patton just mumbled something along the lines of "If you don't shut up soon I'll make you.".
Roman grabbed Virgil firmly by the shoulders "Whatever- it's fine this is why I had two kids anyways.
Virgil, go seduce the prince.".
"What?! Why me!" "Because I said so, and try not to look like a walking corpse for once.".
He pinched his cheeks hard enough until they were bright and rosy and fiddled around with Virgil's clothes and hair before practically throwing him at Remus.
Virgil stumbled towards him, ruffling his own hair back in to its formerly messy state and popping his collar.
"What's up, I'm virgil." Remus was halfway through chugging a cup of some totally nonalcoholic punch but sat it down to speak to him.
"Well you're not very formal." "I mean to be honest, I don't really care about a monarchy or the people in it, just seems like people who wear silly hats who get paid more than everyone else.".
Remus chuckled "That is a pretty accurate summary.".
"If I'm being honest, I don't really care about you or anyone else in this room, I'm just here to pretend to be some intelligent little snack for you because my dad wants me to.".
"So you really don't want my crown?" "Nope, I'm just talking to you out of familial obligation.".
"Would you believe me if I told you this ball was thrown for similar reasons?" Virgil feigned surprise "What?! A prince being forced to do something?! No way!".
Remus smiled "I guess I am a bit of a walking cliche aren't I?" "Eh, don't be hard on yourself... okay maybe a little bit.".
"You're definitely interesting, I'll give you that." Virgil was having a bit of a nice time talking to the prince, if he didn't wanna stay single forever he wouldn't have a problem with dating him, "Awww that's sweet but I'm way out of your league." He cooed.
"By the way, have you ever worn a male corset?" "No." "They are the most awful and suffocating things in the world, female corsets are for bra support.
These fucking things are for body shape, also this outfit is too tight because the tailor sucks.
Anyways, I'm gonna go back to my family now cause my feet are killing me to stand here." "Let me guess— the shoes are also too small." "Exactly.".
As Virgil walked away Remus felt a little sad, he actually liked talking to him, way more than Patton to be honest.
"What the hell was that?!" Roman yelled, Virgil just shrugged "my best.".
"Ugh! I can't believe you two! You've ruined your one chance to secure a legacy that would last for generations! For your children! For your grand children! For-" "Dad!" "What?! What is it Virgil!" He probably would of smacked them by now if they weren't at a formal event.
Virgil pointed to the door "I think some ones arriving." "Well it better be some one important if they think they can show up late!" Roman put his hands on his hips and stared at the door, wondering who would have the gall to show up late to a royal party.
