Remus rode his horse around the kingdom with Janus, trying the shoe on various people with no luck, although there were tons of men who very obviously weren't the person he danced with.
For example, he was pretty sure his partner wasn't a red head or that he was dark skinned, in fact he would go so far as to say his partner was unhealthily pasty, like he really really needed to get some sunlight or like he had spent a long time in a pitch black cellar, heh, could you imagine that?!
Half way through their search Janus and Remus started to tire, fearing that they would never find the boy or even know what happened to him.
For all they knew he could of been a hallucination as a side affect from one of the random mushrooms Remus had eaten with out checking of it was poisonous or not.
Even if it was a wild goose chase though, it was still worth it to look, he'd rather waste his time and energy running around to find a non existent prince than waste his time and energy sitting around and worrying about where the prince went.
"Here... we need... to stop... here..." exasperated Remus, completely out of breath and wishing riding a horse was less physically taxing.Janus nodded as the two headed towards the last house they were going to check: Logan's.
Remus knocked on the door to see a tall, slightly muscular man in red, he bowed and formally greeted them.
He ushered them into a room where Virgil and Patton were sitting on chairs, both missing one of their shoes, Virgil looked embarrassed to be there and Patton looked way too eager.
"Do I have to do this?" asked Virgil "Yes." Roman demanded, Janus grabbed the shoe from Remus and got down on one knee, carefully trying to slide the shoe on Virgil's heel.
It didn't fit though, after all it was a shoe only made for Logan and Virgil's foot was a little too small."Enough about him! Give it to me!" Patton yanked the shoe away from Janus and quickly started trying to jam it on his foot, Patton's feet were somewhat big though so trying to squish one of them into a shoe like that was probably gonna end with either a broken toe or broken shoe.
Seeing as his son was struggling so much, Roman wasted no time trying to force the shoe to fit, cursing and yelling for everyone to just shut up for a second so he could focus.
"Alright! That's it!" Roman took out a knife from his pocket and got dangerously close to cutting off his sons toe "Woah! What the hell! Are you crazy?!" Interjected Remus, taking the knife away "It doesn't fit, you lunatic.".
Roman and Patton sulked about the shoe, Virgil sulked about the lack of feet cutting, Remus sulked about not finding the mystery boy and Janus sulked about being the only person with a functioning brain in the whole room.
This whole thing had been a disaster, Remus sadly looked around "Are these really the only young men in the whole house?".Roman panicked a little, gravitating towards the kitchen door and placing his hand on the knob "Yes." he said with gritted teeth.
"Why so secretive?" Asked Janus, approaching the door.
"I- uh-" "Out of the way." Janus pushed him, he tried to open it but it was locked.
"Oh well, can't get in there cause the doors jammed, it's best if you just run along no-" Roman was interrupted by the loud sound of Janus kicking open the door, "Fixed it." he claimed, feeling bad ass.
Remus stepped inside to see the boy they were so keen on hiding, but all he saw was an empty room with nothing in it.Roman was frozen in surprise and confusion, he didn't even know where Logan had gone or how he got out until he noticed the smashed window above the stove.
Remus looked around and tried to inspect everything, for any sign that he might of been the boy he was looking for but there was nothing.
Until of course, he looked inside a small cabinet, with a thick and familiar dusty book.
Opening it he saw the same little scribble of his name and age on the first page, solidifying that this was in fact the same person and just like that, it all clicked for Remus.
Everything, the terrible family, the mystery boys identity, why Logan wasn't at the ball, all of it.He wasn't a prince, he was his friend, that's why he was so familiar, he held the book close and thought about the magical kiss they shared that was totally not awkward at all.
"I know who he is!" He exclaimed in joy before slowly realizing that this didn't help him at all, considering he didn't even know where Logan was.
Roman took some comfort in the fact that it was very unlikely Remus would find him, although he was pretty disappointed that now he would have to hire a new maid, god knows he wasn't gonna cook and clean for himself.
Virgil was silent as a mouse though, he knew exactly what Logan was doing and where he was going, after all, he was the one who helped him escape.
