He heard it before he saw it. A thundering rumble that shook the mountainside. The snow beneath his skis began to crumble and slide down the slope. At first just a trickle. Then more and more until he spotted the tsunami of powder charging at him from above. The man bolted down the mountain as fast as he could. It didn't matter. He couldn't outrun it. The avalanche soon overtook him, tumbling him head over heels once, twice, three times, his body nothing more than a ragdoll tossing about. Then he came to a stop and saw nothing but white.
