Chapter 39
When Bailey told me that he wanted to introduce me to his parents, akala ko nagjo-joke lang siya. But hell no—seryoso talaga siya! The moment we landed in Manila, nag-pack agad kami for a week in his province tapos the next morning, bumalik kami sa airport for our flight.
I wished naka-tulog ako sa plane, but Bailey kept on making daldal about his family, his childhood friends and everything about his province. I mean, nag-eenjoy naman ako pero girl, wala pa kaming tulog pareho!
So I asked the flight attendant to bring us over some foods. I made sure na mabubusog si Bailey until maka-tulog siya. Seriously? I love this guy but sometimes he needs to shut up. And after he finished eating, naka-tulog na rin siya. I put on my sleeping mask and took a nap also.
"Ladies and gentlemen, Manila Airlines welcomes you to the Province of Agpangan. The local time is 10:55am and the temperature is 32 degrees Celsius," the captain announced. "On behalf of the airline and the entire crew, I'd like to thank you for joining us on this trip and we are looking forward to flying with you again in the future. Have a nice stay!"
Tinanggal ko na 'yung mask ko when I heard the captain speak. I saw na tulog pa 'yung seatmate ko kaya I poked his tummy.
"Ha?" sabi niya.
"Wake up! We're here already!"
Biglang nag-light up 'yung face niya. "Uy, welcome to Agpangan!" he said and waited until the seatbelt sign was off before we stood up.
We fell in line to get our luggages kaya I make inat-inat muna. I was yawning pa nga kaya napa-cover ako ng mouth ko. I took off my sunglasses and put it inside my bag. When I saw Bailey walking towards me while pulling the luggages, I helped him na.
"So where do we go from here?" I asked.
"Nagugutom ka ba? We can stop by sa kapitolyo for a meal," he replied. I contemplated for a moment before shaking my head. "Okay... ano, diretso na tayo sa amin?"
I swallowed my saliva. I suddenly felt like my tummy was empty but I also wanted to vomit at the same time.
Shocks, parang kinabahan ako bigla!
"Sure," I said in complete utterance while nodding. There's no use in delaying the inevitable.
Sumakay kami ng bus papunta sa baryo nila. I sat by the window and it was very mahangin because all windows were down. The environment really lived up to the hype—super fresh nga ng hangin sa province!
"Excited ka na ba?" Bailey asked, clutching my hand.
I shrugged. "Yeah... I guess? Ugh, I'm really nervous! What if they don't like me?"
"Ay, sus," Bailey snorted. "Matagal ka na nilang gusto, 'no."
"Really? I mean, how?" I asked, my forehead creased. Has he been telling his family about me?
"Basta... Makikita mo nalang," he replied.
I tried my best nalang to calm myself down during the ride. Tapos I thought of practicing my greeting to them in my head. Gosh, naloloka na ako! Dapat pala nag-research ako about their dialect!
"Oh, Mariposa na po tayo!" sigaw ng conductor. "Yung mga bababa, pwede na ho! Baka may iihi o kakain dyan, thirty minutes lang!"
I was jittering nang humarap ako kay Bailey. He just smiled at me and pinauna na akong bumaba ng bus.
"Okay ka lang?" he asked. "Kinakabahan ka? Gagi, 'wag."
"Bailey naman, e!" saway ko sa kanya, rolling my eyes.
