FLASHBACK
"Hey Aizawa!"
"Kirishima, what brings you here?"
The red head took a seat across from her on the mat when she waved him over from her seated position.
The boy saw how her chest was heaving and her breath was ragged along with the sweat droplets on her forehead, signs that she had been exercising.
"I was looking for you, I need to ask you for a favor."
The girl in front of him wasn't wearing their school's gym uniform, instead she had gone for a pair of running leggings and a loose tank top, very casual just like her messy ponytail from which some hairs had escaped
Kirishima's cheeks copied her pink ones, though his were from another kind of flustering. If you'd ask him who the manliest girl was, he'd said Mina, but that was before he got to know her best friend.
He'd noticed how she never joined them for lunch and even when he asked her one day she politely declined saying she had homework to catch up on. Though he had seen her slip inside one of the smaller training halls one day when searching for Kaminari.
His curiosity had taken the better of him and he observed how she ate her sandwich hastily before starting her intense work out training until ten minutes before the bell rang and she went to wash herself up.
Her music was softly hearable through her earphones along with some cussing from time to time which surprised him. Just like he had accused himself for being weak and not good enough, the same words left her lips in frustrated whispers.
Never had he thought that one of the best student in his class would be insecure and uncertain like that and think so similar to himself. It made him want to comfort her and tell her otherwise but he wasn't any better so who was he to talk.
"The Sports Festival is near and I wondered if you'd help me with my training. You're the strongest person I know and your Quirk is perfect to push my hardening to it's limit. Of course I understand that you're busy as well so if you don't want to that's totally okay."
His smile was the purest thing she'd ever seen, his eyes shone with hope and admiration. How could she say no to him? Actually she was honored that he even though of her to be worthy of his time.
"I'd love to train together Kiri, but only if we drop those formalities please, we're friends aren't we?"
"Thank you so much and you got it (Y/N)!"
Shark teeth formed into a grin, which she smiled back to, not knowing her nickname made him happier than the training. The boy felt like a fanboy again, but instead of Crimson Riot, it was his classmate.
---
"Oh shit-"
His sentence got interrupted when a hand wrapped around the wrist that was about to hit her head, it just led his incoming attack to the side which made him loose balance. Suddenly her back was pressed against his front, her hair swiped in front of his face and he thought he could smell her shampoo for a moment but he couldn't register it as she moved one leg over his, trapping it. Her back now against his side and she pushed her hip onto his while also still pulling his wrist.
Unfortunately her new move didn't work out the way as she had hoped, not only did it take Kirishima down but it took her down along with him.
Laughter erupted from both of them, neither able to get up because of it but even when silence set back in no one made a move. They just kept lying on the ground, legs entangled, her head on his chest and his arms around her waist.
"I'm so tired I could fall asleep like this."
Her cheeks were pink from the earlier exercise but they weren't going to get back to normal soon as she was enjoying Kirishima's heartbeat and embrace.
"Yeah man, but we have to go to class- hm five more minutes."
The boy's mind changed when he realized the position they were in and honestly, he didn't want to move either. They had been training together for a while now and they had gotten very comfortable around each other, they clicked very easily as they had similar personalities.
The more he got to know her, the more his admiration for her grew. She proved herself plural times to be amazing in combat, super strong and the greatest partner.
The way how he could feel her heart beat against his, how her soft breath tickled his skin, how her weight pushed down on him just the right amount, how he could smell her perfume through their sweat. It made him realize how thankful he was for everything, for being able to train with her and have her as his friend.
END FLASHBACK
"Looks like your little training sessions with Shorty were just a waste of time!"
A punch accompanied with an explosion hit Kirishima's jaw sending him backwards and before he could recover another hit the other side. His hardening was starting to wear off after having strained himself to all of Bakugou's attacks.
"How do you-"
"You're always going on about how freaking hard your body is, but it looks like with enough rapid attacks you start falling to pieces. Anyone would've been better to train with than that Loser, I'll beat her too after I'm done with you. Now die!"
And as much as the red head wanted to yell out how wrong his opponent was and kick his ass for thinking bad of their classmate, he just couldn't as everything started to go dark and his body hit the ground the moment she called out his name.
He hadn't wasted his time with her, it was totally opposite. He had the time of his life with her. She made him stronger. She was the one who had wasted her time on him. He had failed her.
---
"I'm sorry, (Y/N)."
"Why are you apologizing? You did amazing Kiri!"
His eyes felt heavy but he opened them anyhow, wanting to make sure the voice was real as he thought he was still asleep and dreaming.
She was sitting down besides him on the hospital bed, holding onto his hand in a reassuring manner. He was surprised at first but then remembered what kind of person she was when his eyes met with hers. She wasn't mad at all, her smile seemed to congratulate him, she was visibly very proud of him, there were no words needed.
He let out a chuckle, relief filled him now he knew that she was still at his side. Not only her but also his other friends which he just now noticed sitting on the chairs next to the bed besides her.
"Thank you for believing in me."
"Always Kiri."
