Before we left, I took a quick peek in our fridge and found a treasure that I handed to JJ to put in my backpack. »Oh and take the chocolate bar« JJ said with a big smile on his face and pointed his finger at one of the chocolate bars. I took the chocolate bar out of the refrigerator and put it with the other food I had piled on JJ's arms.

I ran up to my room to put on another bikini under my clothes and as I came down the stairs my phone vibrated, and I checked who had texted me.

Rafe Cameron: I expect you tomorrow night at the bonfire party

I stopped for a moment on the stairs and briefly thought about what I could answer. Honestly, I didn't know if I should really go to the party. I mean, John B ignores me, he probably hates me too and so does Sarah.

Grace: Maybe

I typed a response on my display and when I hit send, JJ called me. »Are you coming?«

»I am on my way« I answered and ran down the rest of the stairs. I took Pete on the leash and JJ locked the door behind us and threw me the key.

We waited for the others at the little port in outer banks, and I was more than tense. I was afraid how the mood would be and whether John B will talk to me.

Like I said, I don't feel like having to justify myself again, especially since Rafe and I aren't even a couple.

We are simply two people with certain advantages, right?

I have often thought about whether there could be more, but I was afraid that if I asked him, he would block it. I already suspected that John B will ignore me or give me nasty looks. He is stubborn and way too selfish.

»Do you have a joint?« I asked JJ nervously and played with my sleeves, while he sat next to Pete on the bridge and stroked him. »Really Grace? You ask me that?« he said and held both hands over his heart and pretended that I had stabbed him in the heart with this sentence.

»Don't get me wrong, I appreciate you that you want to smoke some weed-« JJ said, and I rolled my eyes.

»Shut up« I answered and poked him in the side with my elbow.

I knew the question was weird. Who would ask JJ Maybank about a joint. You can just hold out your hand, and he'll put whatever you need in it.

»It's the other side« I said and laughed after I sat down next to him and took a big drag of his joint. »What?« he asked, confused, not knowing, that I meant the side of his body where the heart is. »Never mind« I answered his question and stood up, seeing John B, Kie and Pope heading towards us in the boat.

»Get ready to have the best summer day of your life« Kie said, pretending to talk into a walkie-talkie. »LET'S GO BABY« JJ shouted, and we all had to laugh.

It seemed to me as if everything was normal, as if that argument from yesterday didn't even exist. But this shows once again how quickly something can change.

»Hello chaotic people« I greeted my friends and Pope held out his hand for me to jump on the boat. I gave him a warm smile as a thank you and sat myself down next to Kie.

It was a weird feeling to pretend yesterday didn't happen. The mood was somewhat relaxed but still John B ignored me, better said as if I didn't exist. But what he could do, I could also do.
