My Double Agent

Chapter 6 ~ Things get tricky.

 It was January 5, 1997. Everyone was returning to Hogwarts from their 2 week break. Hermione was sitting in the Gryffindor common room in front of the fire place, she had one of her new books in her lap but she was admiring the ring on her finger. She smiled at it when all the sudden a squeal from behind her made her jump, "The hell?" She turned around to see Ginny jumping. Hermione laughed, "What are you doing?"

"Oh my god!!! Whose the lucky guy?!"

"What?"

"You're engaged!" Ginny screamed a little too loud for comfort. Hermione was to put the ring on to her necklace and tuck it under her sweater as Severus instructed her to do that morning. She didn't think they'd be back this soon. She looked around noticing how everyone was now looking at her, Hermione gulped and looked back at Ginny who was now accompanied with Harry, Ron, and Lavender who were all looking at her confused. Hermione rolled her eyes and saved her page in her book and stood up cradling it in her arm, "You honestly believe I'm engaged?"

Ginny scoffs, "You're wearing an engagement ring!"

"It's not an engagement ring."

Ron rolls his eyes, "Oh bloody hell 'Mione, you can't possibly think we're all that daft."

Hermione takes the ring off in front of them and puts it on her necklace, everyone in the room watches her interested in the arguing. Hermione then puts the necklace on, "My dad sent it to me for Christmas, ok? It was my grandmothers. I was just trying it on."

The crows sighed annoyed that there wasn't a big scandal to gossip about and went back to their own conversations. Ginny started to giggle then scratch the back of her head, "That makes more sense... sorry Hermione."

Harry and Ron nod in agreement, Lavender on the other hand, shrugged, not really caring.

Hermione then sits back down, "Now, on to reality. How was Christmas?"

Ginny sat next to her, "Oh my god you missed it Hermione! Mum made Lavender and Ron matching sweaters!"

They begin to laugh and Harry nods, "Yeah they were cuuuuuute.", He teases.

Ron grunted, "Shut up Harry, they're atrocious."

Harry laughed but then Lavender huffed, "Won won, They were cute! We should wear them and show Hermione!"

"No! Not with all these people around."

"Why? Please!" She then gave Ron a look he couldn't say no too and nodded. The couple ran upstairs to change into them. Harry sat on the other side of Ginny looking at her and Hermione worried, "This will be..."

"Interesting..." Ginny finished. Hermione giggles.

They all share a laugh and talk about what Harry and Ginny got. Soon the room was full of laughter. Hermione jumped up and turned around to see Ron on the stairs with Lavender hanging on his arm with their matching sweaters. Lavender looked pleased while Ron looked miserable. Hermione wanted to laugh but then she noticed how everyone already was, made her feel bad. She handed her book to Harry, "Hold this." and stood up on the couch, she then began clapping. Slowly people stopped laughing and nodded in approval. Then the whole room was clapping. It made Ron smile and Lavender blush. The two shared a kiss before Hermione stepped down and looked at Harry who looked at the book confused, "Where-?"

"What? It's just one of my new books."

"Hermione, where did you get it?"

"Was a gift, why?"

"From who?

Hermione looks at him confused, "Uh..."

"Hermione, how did you get this book?!"
