My Double Agent

Chapter 2 ~ Unexpecting Member

  Hermione rises up out of the comfort of her bed and looks at the clock 01:52AM.  She stands up and stretches before grabbing a grey sweater and starts to pull it over her tank top. She then grabs some jeans that she had laid out hours before, when she all the sudden she hears some shuffling. Hermione turns around to see that Ginny has sleepily leaned up and was looking right at her, "'Mione, what are you doing?"

"I forgot something in the library, don't worry about Ginny, go back to sleep. I won't take long."

Ginny nodded and without a second thought, she fell back into her pillows, cuddling them before closing her eyes.  Hermione giggles at her sleepy ginger friend as she pulls her jeans up over her hips. She slides some black knee-high boots. She grabs her grey beanie putting it on and letting her curls fall down the sides of her face. She grabs her wand and stuffs it into her right boot before sneaking out the door. Once she is in the hallway, she turns to see Professor Snape standing there, "Follow me Ms. Granger." Hermione nods and they start walking towards Dumbledore's office.

The halls were dark and quiet, the only thing Hermione could hear were her and Severu's footsteps and her own heartbeat, which she could feel beating faster. She was starting to panic, what if Voldemort did kill her tonight? She started to hyperventilate. Severus notices and stops, turns around and looks at her worried. He grabs her shoulders making her sit on a nearby bench with him. Not knowing a way to calm her down, he pulled her into a hug. He took her beanie off and set it in her lap so he could caress her hair, "Shh... I know you're scared."

"I'm sorry..." Hermione mutter in-between sobs. She felt like a child, she couldn't believe she was sitting there crying in his arms. Severus shook his head, "No need to apologize. We have time for you to collect yourself." Hermione shoved her face into his chest and sobbed. Severus looks down at her surprised. Not really knowing how to react, he's never hugged someone before... well that wasn't Lily. He pulls her in closer and continues to caress her hair, Hermione starts to relax as the smell of parchment seems to emanate off of Severus's cloak. She slowly pulls away and wipes her eyes. Severus stands back up and looks at her concerned. Hermione smiles as she begins to put her beanie back on, "Thank you Professor."

"Are you ok now Ms. Granger?"

Hermione takes a deep breath then smiles up at him, "Yes, let's continue." Severus nods and leads the way, once again, towards Dumbledore's office. It did not take them long to get to their destination. Right as Severus was about to knock on the door, it opens and Dumbledore's voice comes through, "Enter Severus and Ms. Granger." Severus hesitates before walking up to his desk with Hermione on his heel. Dumbledore looks at Hermione, "Are you sure about this? There is a good chance you will not come back."

Hermione held back her tears and nodded, "I'm positive."

"Well then. Severus, I think Hermione has a meeting to get too."

Severus nods and walks out onto the balcony, Hermione follows him and looks at him when he raises his arm, "Sir?"

"Take my arm, Ms. Granger."

She wraps her arm around his. Within seconds the view from the balcony is replaced with a dark tall hallway. Hermione continues to hold onto Severus's arm, "Where are we?"

"The Malfoy Manor.", he responds, with his other hand he reaches over and holds Hermion's hoping it would make her feel safe.

Hermione smiles at his hand before continuing to look around, "Much darker than I would've thought. How sad."

Severus nods, "This way."

They continue to walk down some hallways until they come to huge French doors, they were just as dark and mysterious as the rest of the house. Severus takes a deep breath and knocks on the door, "My Lord."
