Chapter 38 - Death of the Half Blood Prince?

Hermione looks at Draco and Astoria worriedly. Draco speaks up, "You three go ahead, will help fight off some death eaters. Go!" They all nod at each other before Harry, Ron, and Hermione take off. They starts running through battles, trolls, spiders, they stop and help sometimes when they could. As they were running Ron turns around and screams, "No!!!" Hermione and Harry turn around to see Fenrir Greyback biting into Lavender's neck. 

Greyback stood up and looked at Hermione, "I knew you were a fake, filthy mu-" before he could say another word Ron shot at him causing Greyback to fly backwards and get impaled on a piece of rubble. Ron runs over to Lavender crying, "No! No!! We're getting married, don't do this to me Lavender!"

"Ron we have to get to the boat house!", Harry yelled

"You two go! I wont leave her!"

Harry and Hermione nodded and ran off, once they get to the entrance to the school, they stop as they see a swarm of Dementors flying their way. A man from behind them casted expecto patronum/ They turn around too see Aberforth Dumbledore stood there and nodded at them. They nod back as they make their way down to the boathouse. 

"You have performed extraordinary magic with this wand, my lord, with this wand alone.", Severus stated as Voldemort and Nagini walked towards him.

"No. No, I AM extraordinary, but the wand resists me."

Harry and Hermione hide outside the boat house as they listen to their conversation. Severus responds again, "There is no wand, more powerful. Ollivander, himself, said it. Tonight, when the boy comes, it will not fail you. I'm sure of it."

Voldemort looks at him, not pleased with his answer. Severus worries slightly, "It answers to you, and you only."

"Does it?", Voldemort asks

"My lord?"

"The wand, does it truly answer to me? You're a clever man Severus, surely you must know. Where does its truly loyalty lie?"

"With you. Of course, my lord."

"The Elder Wand cannot serve me properly because I am not it's true master. The Elder Wand belongs to the wizard that killed it's last owner." 

Voldemort and Nagini starts to walks closer to Severus. Hermione starts to cry, knowing where this was going. Harry covered her mouth, as to stay quiet, and hugged her tightly. Voldemort then looks Severus in the eyes, "You killed Dumbledore Severus, while you live the Elder Wand cannot truly be mine. You've been a good and faithful servant, Severus. And I promise I will take good care of Hermione for you. But only I can live forever."

Hermione struggles against Harry's grasp. Severus tried not to cry, worried about Hermione, "My Lord-" Without hesitation Voldemort causes his throat to slash. Severus falls back and hit's the ground. He couldn't believe this was happening to him. Voldemort looks down to his snake, "Nagini, kill." The snake attacks Severus with his poisonous fangs a few times. Hermione cried hard in Harry's arms. She couldn't stand to listen to it.

As soon as Voldemort and Nagini left and Harry let go of Hermione. Hermione runs through the door and sits by Severus, putting her hand under his neck, stopping the bleeding in the process, "No! Please! You can't leave me like this Severus!" Harry walks up behind her and Severus starts to cry, "Take them, make him watch them."

"Ok, hold on." Hermione puts his tear into a vial and handed it to Harry. She then turns back to Severus still crying, "I love you."

"I love you Hermione, I always will."

"Don't you dare try to say goodbye, because you were smart as well as you were stupid." Hermione quickly pulls out the antidote Severus made just hours prior. Hermione helps him to drink the antidote, "Now we just need to stop the bleeding."

"Hermione, what if you cant-"

"I can do it!"

Soon a piercing sound rings through the air as Voldemort begins to speak as if his voice was in the wind, "You have fought valiantly but in vain. I do not wish this, every drop of magical blood spilt is a terrible waste. I will command my forces to retreat. In their absence dispose of your dead with dignity. Harry Potter, I now speak directly to you. On this night, you have allowed your friend to die for you rather than face me yourself. There is no greater dishonor. Join me in the Forbidden Forest and confront your fate. If you do not do this, I shall kill every last man, woman, and child who tries to conceal you from me."

The voice fades away and the night seem to go quiet for a few second. Harry looks at Hermione, "Look, if you want to help him, let's get him up to the castle!"

Hermione nods and with Harry's help they get Severus up to the castle soon enough. Once inside the doors Hermione rushes over to Madam Pomfrey, "Please..." she cries. Harry and Hermione lay Severus down. She starts gealing him instantly without question. Hermione sit's next to him and holds Severus's hand as he is healed. Harry walks away to go find Ron.

Hermione knew that the whole room was staring at her and Severus. She ignored them though, just trying to make sure Severus lived. Minerva sat next to Hermione and put her hand on top of Hemiones'. Hermione looks up at her, "I.. I'm sorry. I know we lied, but we were only trying to help." 

Minerva hugged Hermione and shushed her, "Draco explained it, No one is mad at either of you." 

"Severus cares for everyone- He can't die... he just can't." 

Minerva sat with Hermione and hugged her tightly, "He needs you to have faith for him Hermione."

Hermione pulled away and nodded before looking at Severus. Minerva laughs, "This whole time I thought he just stole your cat." Hermione laughs at her comment as Minerva continued, "I knew Severus. And I judged him so quickly, that wasn't fair. He is one of my best friends too. And I hope he hears me say it."

Hermione smiled, "I his letter's he would talk about how badly he wanted to teach potions again. He thought you should have been Headmistress."

"He hates being a Potion's Professor. Always wanted the Dark Arts."

"I think he might want to retire after all this, settle down."

"I do hope you will redo your wedding, I'd love to attend it."

Hermione smiles at her, "I'll see if I can convince him."

The two laugh together for a bit before Hermione focuses on Severus again, "You can fight through this."
