Draco woke in his dorm alone. He knew Blaise wasn't in there as he couldn't hear the usual snores emitting from the other side of the room. No one was sneaking around his room like they usually would on his birthday. No one hiding underneath the bed with fireworks and confetti. Just an empty room. He hadn't spoken to any of his friends since that night. They avoided his eye contact, brushed past him in the corridors, Blaise hadn't even been staying in the dorm with him. Draco pressed his hands into his eyes so hard he began to see stars. He drew a long breath before releasing it accompanied by a low sob. A knock on his door startled him. He dragged his palms across his skin removing any evidence of tears that had fallen.
The door slowly pushed open and Theo stood in the doorway "can I come in?"
"Why?" Draco scoffed.
Theo scoffed and entered the room "it wouldn't be right not to wish you a happy birthday mate"
"I don't need your pity"
"It's not pity" Theo sighed "listenthey're all just angry with you"
"I know but it's not like I killed him"
"Of course not" Theo sat on the edge of his bed "but you knew and didn't tell us"
"How is she?"
"I don't know how I'm supposed to answer that"
Draco nodded and brought his hands back to his face and pressed hard against his temples. A pounding headache ran through his brain and pulsated through his veins.
"The others want to come in and wish you a happy birthday" Theo added "I thought I would check first"
"I don't want to see them, they don't want to see me"
"They do"
"Stop lying"
"I'm not lying" Theo shook his head "they just need some more time and for you to realise that what you did was bad" he paused "it was really bad Malfoy"
