March 1996

"Are you ready for this?" Pansy held Evangeline's shoulder as she secured the necklace around her neck. Evangeline looked down at the small Lily pendant clinging to her skin.

"No, but I don't think I have a choice" Evangeline smiled at Pansy keeping her composure. The rain hadn't stopped since that day. It crashed against the sides of the castle each night keeping Evangeline awake for most of the night. Pathetic fallacy or what?

They entered the Great Hall hand in hand. Evangeline left Pansy at her usual spot and carried on towards the podium where Dumbledore was waiting for her. Evangeline caught eyes with Neville who was sat staring at her, his eyes glossy with his palms pressed tightly together. There were many empty seats at the Hufflepuff table, she looked over there for the first time since. His seat stayed empty, as she presumed it would for years to come. His friends were huddled together, tears flowing onto their tired skin.

"Miss Lily" Snape took her arm as he led her to the piano which sat in front of the podium. His eyes expressed a different emotion, one she had never seen from him before but she didn't have time to analyse the professor.

"Today we acknowledge a really terrible loss" Dumbledore began as Evangeline sat herself down at the piano. The keys glistened in front of her, she blinked and they returned to normal. She brought her hand to her cheek where tears had began to fall "Cedric Diggory as you all know, was exceptionally hard working, infinitely fair minded and most importantly a fierce, fierce friend"

The hall was deadly silent, Evangeline could hear the wind outside as it flew through the trees. A shiver ran down her spine whilst she braced herself as Dumbledore continued.

"Now I think therefore you have the right to know exactly how he died"

Evangeline's head snapped up to the headmasters, whose eyes focused on the students and teachers sat in the hall. There were a few whispers and heads began to turn to one another. Evangeline shut her eyes not prepared for what was to come.

"Cedric Diggory was murdered, by Lord Voldermort. The Ministry of Magic does not wish me to tell you this" he shook his head and placed his fist firmly in front of him "but not to do so would be an insult to his memory"

"Now the pain we all feel for his loss reminds me and reminds us, that while we may come from different places and speak different tongues, that our hearts beat as one"

Students began to cry, soft muffled cries. The atmosphere in the hall was somber, but unified, something Evangeline couldn't quite describe. She suddenly felt stronger, as though Dumbledore's speech granted her to strength to get through the next few minutes.
