Chapter 42

Winter's POV:

I stood with Wilbur and Tommy over the top of a building, looking onto Manburg. Tubbo was making his speech, but I couldn’t bear to pay attention.

I took deep breaths, trying to calm my nerves. Demetria had gotten a last minute invitation and all I could focus on was her.

I still had the daisy chain she'd given me yesterday. I'd stashed it in my enderchest.

I glanced at the crowd and saw her, still wearing the flower crown I'd given her. She was also wearing the blue jumper I'd given her.

I turned in to the speech, knowing I needed to pay attention.

"So let the festival begin!" Tubbo said, nervousness lacing his voice.

Schlatt and Quackity started placing blocks around Tubbo, boxing him in. My breath hitched.

What the hell??

My thoughts started to fuzz my mind. What. What? My left eye started to burn, signifying the green colour seeping in.

My thoughts snapped when Techno stood up. He walked to the platform in almost complete silence.

"I want you to. Take. Him. Out." Schlatt said, malevolence tainting his voice.

"What, for dinner?" Techno asked, trying to lighten the mood but desperately failing.

"No!" Schlatt shouted. "I want you to kill him!"

Techno shifted, grip tightening on the body of his crossbow. Quackity's obnoxious laugh filled the air.

Techno raised his crossbow and before I knew it, an ender pearl was in my hand.

The nausea was overpowered by the adrenaline rush. Shouts erupted from around me as I tried to push Techno's arm away from Tubbo.

Techno's fireworks fired into Tubbo's body and the sparks hit all of the other people on the podium.

I hissed at the burning pain along my arms.

Tubbo's body dissolved, fading into a few particles. Schlatt and Quackity had fled the podium after being injured.

Fucking cowards!

Tommy stumbled onto the platform in a cloud of purple.

Techno turned to the crowd and started unloading his fireworks on them.

I screamed and pushed him off the stage, trying to stop him from hurting my friends in the crowd of a dozen or so people.

I jumped down to Techno, using my wings to slow my fall.

"We have allies in the group of people you just shot!" I yelled, gesturing to the scattered crowd of people.

He just looked away and ran into the chaos, pulling out his orphan obliterator.

I looked over the crowd, scanning the chaos for Demetria.

People were fighting Tommy and now Tubbo who had reappeared. Niki had joined them.

I finally saw the person I was looking for. Demetria was clutching her upper arm, where a burn was.

Fucks sake Techno!

I saw Sapnap running towards her, sword drawn. I growled and ripped my blades off my hips, springing them open.

I dashed towards her, sliding in front of Sapnap. I tried to swing my blade across his body, but he moved back.

He brought down his sword over my head and I ducked under his arm.

I kicked him in the back and used my elbow to hit him on the neck, knocking him out.

I handed Demetria a potion. She took it and downed it in one go.

"Go back to Pogtopia. You'll be safe there." She nodded and galloped away. I felt a huge boulder of worry lift off my shoulders.

She's safe.

I ran into the chaos, ready to fight.
