Winter’s POV:

My eyes fluttered open and instead of seeing the leaves of the forest it landed in, I saw stone.

I groaned and pushed myself up with one hand, using the other to rub my temple. I squeezed my eyes closed, head pounding.

I sat upright and rubbed my eyes, using my wings to give me some balance.

I slowly opened my eyes and looked around. I recognised quickly that I was in Pogtopia.

How did I get here?

I was at least fifty metres away when I passed out… I looked around at the people sitting around me, most of them engulfed in conversation. Tommy, Wilbur, Techno and one centaur like woman I didn’t recognise.

She’s pretty…

Wilbur was looking out into space and Techno was talking to the pretty girl. Tommy was-

“Winter!” Tommy yelled, noticing me being awake. I winced at his noise level. He stood up and ran over to me and hugged me.

“Tommy- Tommy, back hurts.” I choked out, tears pricking my eyes.

He let go and mumbled an apology and something about just being happy that I was ok. Wilbur stood up silently and gave me a quick, gentle hug.

He then passed me some potions and walked away.

He’s really losing it, huh? If he wasn’t, he would be fussing over me so much.

Techno stood up and walked over. “You ok, nerd?” he asked, ruffling my hair.

“Eh, so so…” I muttered, leaning back on my hands.

The centaur lady stood up and introduced herself.

“Hi, I’m Demetria. Phil sent me after getting your letter and I’m the one who found you in the forest.” she said with a sweet smile. I smiled back.

She had warm, caramel coloured skin, honey yellow eyes and dark brown, fluffy hair. Her forehead was adorned with two deer horns and she had pointed ears. Her nose and shoulders were speckled with white freckles and a dark scar trailed over the top of her nose.

“So Phil did get my letter… that was pretty fast…” I mused.

“Sorry, I had to borrow a shirt since I ripped mine to stop the bleeding…” she said, gesturing to one of my white singlets she was wearing.

“It’s cool.” I replied, swinging my legs off the table I’d been laid on. I groaned slightly at the lingering, throbbing pain in my back.

I stood up and stumbled forward.

Demetria reached out to balance me, by placing her hands on my shoulders. I looked up at her and used her arms to balance myself as I regained my footing.

I looked up at her. She was about five inches taller than me.

“How old are you?” I blurted out. My cheeks flushed as I realised what I had just said.

“Oh my XD, I’m so sorry-” I stumbled over my words.

“No, no it’s alright.” she giggled, still helping me stand up. “I’ve just turned sixteen.”

“I’m fifteen.” I said, standing up straight, one hand still balancing on her arm.

“Actually, she’s turning sixteen tomorrow!” Techno called from the potato farm he’d disappeared to.

“Oh, yeah I forgot about that…'' I muttered, noticing how my hand was still using Demetria as a way to balance. I quickly removed my hand with a slight blush lingering on my cheeks.

“Ugh, I need a shower.” I said, looking at my blood stained shirt. “Yeah, that’s probably a good idea.” Demetria said, walking over to the table.

“Make sure to drink these,” she said, passing me a few pink and red potions. “They’ll help with the pain and heal the wounds faster.”

“Thanks,” I said, grabbing the potions and holding them in one hand.

I walked over to my bag, with Demetria trailing behind me. She probably didn’t really know what to do, so I didn’t mind.

“How do you know Phil?” I asked, placing the potions down beside my bag, which I hadn’t moved to my bed.

“Oh! He saved me from some hunters.” I groaned. “Ugh, those dickheads. Me and Techno had so many run-ins with them.” I said, pulling out a few pieces of clothing.

“Goddamnit, I’m not gonna be able to wear any of my hoodies.” I said, groaning after pulling out a shoulderless, cropped black turtleneck.

“You can borrow my cloak!” Demetria said, digging around in her satchel to pull out a hip-length cloak. I was slightly taken aback by her willingness to share.

“Thanks,” I say, grabbing the cloak she had held out to me. Then I had an idea.

I dug around my backpack and pulled out a sky blue hoodie. “You can wear this.” I say, holding it out to her. She blushed slightly and took it from my hands.

“Thank you.” she said, holding it up.

I looked back at my bag and pulled out a sports bra, undies and a pair of combat pants.

“Oh, yeah, Techno took your armour to upgrade it.” Demetria said, as I gathered my things in my bag to take to the spring. I hadn’t even noticed the lack of armour weighing down my body.

My hands instinctively checked my hips. I felt the cool metal of my blades on my hips, I sighed with relief.

“Umm, quick question,” Demetra asked as I placed my blades in my backpack. “Shoot.” I said.

“What the hell do I do?” she asked, wringing her hands and rubbing the back of her neck awkwardly.

“Well, anything you enjoy doing?” I answered. “We need supplies for a revolution and there’s something important going on tomorrow.”

“Yeah, Phil explained some stuff about Manburg and the festival…” she muttered. “I can brew points!” she said, brightening. I smiled softly at her perking up.

“We have a few brewing stands and materials.” I said, picking up my shower bag. “Come on, I’ll show you where they are.”
