Winter’s POV:
I sat up on the stone floor and groaned. I stretched my arms back and opened my wings. I rubbed my eyes and yawned.
Demetria was still asleep on the floor. She was sat with her head resting on her arms.
Guess she doesn't have to worry about bad sleeping positions.
I pushed my wings out again. I sighed, remembering that I’d have to find a whole new sleeping position.
I guess I’m really leaving Pogtopia…
I sighed at the thought of leaving all my friends behind all over again. I looked around the small cave that we'd crashed in last night.
It was small, barely fitting the two teens.
And that’s what we are, two teens.
I stood up and walked to the edge of the cave, checking to see what time of day it was.
The sun had barely started peeking over the horizon. I heard Demetria stir in the background as I leaned against the cave mouth.
“Morning…” She said groggily, walking up behind me. Her hooves clacked against the stone floor as she came to stand next to me.
“Was this a mistake, Demetria?” I asked, standing up straight.
Demetria sighed, standing up. “Look, from the way Phil described Wilbur, this isn’t him. He’s different.”
“Yeah… you’re right…” I sighed and leaned into Demetria. “To think that we’d gotten our independence just a few weeks ago.”
“I know I just asked you to join Pogtopia, but I have one more request.”
I looked into her eyes, their honey colour complementing her skin perfectly.
“Anything.”
“Run away with me. Away from the SMP, from Manburg, from Pogtopia.”
“Sounds like a plan.” She said, grinning. I engulfed her in a hug, mumbling my thanks into her shoulders.
“I have to do one more thing before I can leave though.” I said, breaking away from her hug.
“Ok, I’ll start packing and get us some supplies.” Demetria said, turning back into the cave.
We were both still wearing our armour from last night, so I could just step out of the cave and do what I needed to do.
--in Pogtopia--
I walked down the stairs in the ravine. I had two -- maybe three people to talk to, then I was gone for as long as I needed.
“Wilbur!” I yelled as I reached the bottom.
“Ah, Winter!” he said, popping out of another room. “Glad to see you’re back.”
He was grinning and rocking back and forth on his heels.
“I’m not ‘back’, Wilbur.” I said, putting air quotes around ‘back’. His face flattered at my words. “Pradon? I’m not sure I understand.”
“I’m pretty sure you do, Wil.” I said crossing my arms over my netherite plated chest.
“Are you really going to leave with some random girl you met just a few days ago?” Wilbur asked, his tone changing instantly into a more angry and pissed off one.
“Yes, I am.” I stated, looking him in the eyes, not backing down.
He glared at me, lips tightened into a scowl. “I can’t let you do that Winter.” he said, shaking his head with a laugh.
“Elaborate.”
“Don’t think I will.” Wilbur said, smiling horribly.
“Whatever, I’m going to say goodbye to Tommy.” I said, walking past him. I didn’t have time to deal with him.
I walked through the ravine, looking for the blond.
I peeked into a random room to see Tommy sitting on a table in the corner.
I stepped into the room and walked over to him.
“Is it true?” he asked. “That you’re leaving?” I sighed and crouched in front of him.
“Yes, I am.” he was silent for a while.
“Why Winter?” he looked me in the eyes, the emotion in his eyes filling me with grief.
“I can’t stay here Tommy…” I said looking down at the floor.
“So you're just gonna leave?!” he raised his voice, making me flinch. “Just like that?!” I stood up and he did the same.
“We both know that Wilbur won’t listen to common sense anymore, Tommy!” I flared my wings open and matched his volume. “L’Manburg is gone, Toms.” I said, lowering my voice and wings.
“How do you know that?!” Tommy yelled, opening his arms wide just like how Wilbur would.
“You haven’t lived through wars for L’Manburg, you don’t know anything!” he yelled.
Something snapped within me. I felt my eye start to burn green as I stared Tommy down.
“You want to know something, Tommy?” I said quietly.
He gulped and I continued on.
“For the last seven, almost eight years of my life, I haven’t been able to escape my own thoughts.” I looked him dead in the eyes, filled with a mix of emotion he didn’t know existed.
“But what about sleep?” the blond asked with a gulp.
“Not even then.” I said, smiling at him.
“Winter! I’m sorry-” he reached towards me but I stepped back.
“You know how to find me, Tommy.” I said stepping back again.
I walked out of the room, all emotions slowly leaving my body.
Maybe this will be good for me.
“Hello Winter.”
My body stiffened at the voice. This can’t be who I think it is.
“Dream. Why are you here?”
“I’ve been informed that you are leaving.”
“Mmh, I am in fact leaving.” I slightly turned my head to look at him.
“Well, I’m sure you know I can’t let you do that.”
