Winter’s POV:

I fully turned away from the stairs to look Dream in the face.

“Well, I’ll have you know,” I took a quick step back and pulled my blades of my hips. “I’m not asking for permission.”

I pivoted on my heel and ran up the stairs, not bothering to look behind me since I could hear their thundering footsteps.

I slammed into the wooden door, pushing it down and stumbling a bit. I pushed through the lowest hanging branches, trying not to let my wings get caught.

Wings! Can’t believe I forgot about those.

I picked up my pace a little, still hearing shouts behind me.

Man, this feels fucking fimilar.

The underbrush cleared up enough for me to see the grassy floor.

I rolled my shoulders back and started to move my wings. I flapped them faster and faster, building up a wind around me.

My feet lifted off the ground and I gave myself one last push with my feet. I continued pushing myself to the tree canopy. I looked down quickly to see Dream shielding himself with his arms, trying not to get blown away.

I pushed past the leaves and shot to the sky. I heard the whizzing of arrows, but none of them hitting me.

I glided over the treetops, putting as much distance between us as I physically could.

Dream’s POV:

I watched as Winter flew up past the green roof of the forest. I pulled out my bow and shot a few arrows into the sky.

When I heard no screams after a few seconds I put my bow down and instead pulled out my axe.

Wilbur came into the forest behind me, huffing and puffing.

He started to speak after a few seconds of catching his breath.

“What are we gonna do now, Dream?” he asked, pushing his hair out of his face.

“She still has to go back to her little deer friend,” Wilbur gasped a little, hearing the malevolence in his voice. “And there’s no way she can get there before us.”

I flung an ender pearl away into the trees, leaving Wilbur behind again.

You ain’t leaving, little birdie.

Winter’s POV:

After a few minutes of strenuous flapping, I touched down a few hundred metres away from the cave. Hopefully no one followed me…

I crept through the forest, crouching lower to the ground than strictly needed. Both my blades were gripped in my hands, ready to defend myself if needed.

The dappled forest light kept shining in my eyes, blinding me every few seconds.

It took me a few minutes to reach the cave because of my slow pace.

“Demetria?” I called into the cave, voice echoing in the small space. When no response came, my stomach started to churn.

“Demetria? Are you there?” I called again. Weird…

I stepped further into the cave, squinting into the half darkness.

Then a stick broke on the floor behind me.

I turned quickly, giving myself slight whiplash.

Dream had his axe to Demetria’s neck.
