Chapter Thirty One

[Everything went wrong]

Kiara's panicked scream could be heard as the two girls ran downstairs. "Guys!"

"What's going on?" Pope asked them.

"Mrs. Crain! She's up there! She tried to kill us with a fire poker" They exclaimed as Jo's eyes widened.

"Okay, Code red!" JJ yelled down in the well as all of them were about to pull on the rope to bring him back up but all of them fell back since John B wasn't on the rope.

John B's voice was muffled and Jo could barely understand a thing he was saying which everyone misinterpreted since they though he was drowning.

They pulled at the rope, John B now on it, though they were startled as a gunshot went off.

"Shit! Hang on!"

JJ tied the rope onto something as he grabbed Jo and pulled her down to the floor.

"She can't aim for shit." Kie breathed out, looking at the old woman. "She can't see!" Sarah exclaimed in realisation. "She's blind."

Another gunshot went off as Kie and Sarah quickly ran outside. The third gunshot went off, Pope and JJ ran out as well whilst Jo stayed to help John B out.

The fourth gunshot went off not far away from Jo as she gripped John B's muddy hand and ran for the exit. Adrenaline was coursing through her body as she ran through the garden.

"Whoo!" John B shouted as he ran behind Jo who was fully out of breath.

More gunshots were heard behind them as they ran, Jo climbed over the wall as she ran into the van.

"Oh my god!" All of then exclaimed as John B jumped into the van covered in mud.

"Are you guys okay?! Anyone shot?"

"I think I'd know if I was shot, right?"

All the voices faded together as John B pulled out a bar of gold from his pocket. The adrenaline in Jo's body slowly died down as she hissed in pain, she pulled her gloves off and gasped when she saw the gunshot wound in her abdomen.

No one seemed to notice though, as they all cheered for John B because he found the gold. Jo's heart was racing as she pressed her hands over the wound, blood instantly covering her hands as she started to see black dots appear in her vision.

"John B" she whispered looking up at the boy who had a massive grin on his face. He looked towards the small blonde girl with a big smile but that smile immediately dropped once he saw the blood on her hands.

"Joanna?!" He called out as she started coughing up blood, tears were running down her cheeks as everybody started to panic.

"Oh my god Joanna!"

"JJ drive to the hospital!"

"I don't wanna die, I don't wanna die John B." Jo whispered as her vision darkened.

"You won't die Jo, hey! Keep your eyes open Joanna!" John B sobbed as JJ didn't even look back, not wanting to see Joanna close to dying.

After they had rushed Jo to the hospital she went under surgery which was quite risky since she had lost a lot of blood. For now she was stable which calmed down JJ a lot. He thought he was going to lose her.

Jo woke up with a groan as she squinted her eyes shut. Everything was white and the smell of sanitiser was everywhere.

"Jo?" JJ's voice made her turn her head to the side.

"Oh thank god Jo." He whispered as he took ahold of her hand.

"God, what happened." Jo swallowed as she slowly sat up.

"You got shot in the abdomen, almost didn't make it." JJ sniffled, his eyes were red an puffy since he had been crying for hours.

"Where is everyone?"

"They're all outside, and uh... your parents are here as well."

"No, no, they can't see me." She stammered as she went to rip out the IV from her arm.

"Hey, hey. You'll be alright." He assured her as she let out a sigh.

"Shouldn't you guys be doing something with the gold?" She questioned as she faintly remembered John B having the gold in his hand.

"Are you kidding? We put a stop to that for now, until you get better." JJ told her as she slowly shook her head.

"Don't stop because of me, I'll be alright JJ." She smiled weakly, she couldn't let John B stop the whole thing just because of her.

"No, Jo its okay-"

"JJ, please promise me that you guys will continue without me. Besides it's not like im dead, I just won't be tagging along." She laughed slightly as she put her hand on his cheek.

"Promise me, JJ" he looked hesitant before nodding. "I promise Jo."

She pulled him into a kiss before lowering her hand from his cheek. "I love you JJ" she grinned as he laid back down again.

"I love you as well Princess."

A few days had passed and the things that had happened the Pogues, minus Jo, we're absolutely unbelievable.

John B and Sarah were gone, theorised to have died at sea as they tried to escape the police.

JJ was absolutely heartbroken to have lost his best friend, sure he didn't believe he was dead but still. He stumbled through the hospital as he walked towards Jo's room but his eyebrows furrowed as he saw the room completely empty.

"JJ" a soothing voice called from behind him, he turned around to see Nicole Harper. Her eyes were bloodshot as she held a cloth in her hand to wipe away her tears.

"Where's Joanna?" he asked as his heart rate increased, Nicole let out a sob as JJ's heart dropped.

"No." He shook his head not wanting to believe it.

"She didn't make it JJ, I'm so sorry." Nicole sobbed as JJ's entire world crumbled together. He rushed outside to Kiara and Pope who were waiting in the Twinkie and broke down in sobs.

He had lost his best friend and the love of his life, all just in one day.
