the following day, my parents let me have the day off, so i was at the house alone. i was currently sat in the backyard, laying across a lounge chair in my bathing suite, letting my skin soak up the sun's rays. i had sunglasses on my face and a book in my hands.
"hello?" i heard and looked over my shoulder, seeing an older guy and a guy about my age walking across the grass towards me. the boy was pulling a little black wagon.
"hello," i said and closed my book. "can i help you guys?"
"we're here to clean the pool." the man explained.
"oh," i said and then motioned to it. "it's all yours."
"get the levels," he told the boy. "i'm going to check the pump on the side of the house."
the boy nodded and let the man walk off. he looked over at me as i sent a small smile.
"haven't see you around here before." he told me, grabbing a small beaker thing from the wagon.
"yeah, i just moved back in with my parents." i told him.
"moved back in from where?"
"college."
"they didn't tell us they had kids." he kneeled down, filling the beaker with pool water.
"yeah, it's not their favorite topic."
he laughed stood, placing the tops on each section of the beaker.
"so, college, how old does that make you?"
"nineteen," i replied. "what about you?"
"twenty one." he told me. "skipped the college scene and decided to help out my pops."
i smiled, "that's cute."
he smiled back as he dad hurried over.
"pumps good, let me see those." he grabbed the beaker as i pushed myself up, grabbing my book and my towel. i stepped into the house, placing them both on the counter before grabbing a water and taking a sip.
my phone started ringing against the counter as i grabbed it, seeing my mom's contact. i answered, placing it against my ear.
"hello," i said
"hey, i forgot to tell you but the pool guys are coming over today."
"yeah, they just got here." i told her.
"okay, great, call me if there's any problems."
"will do." i told her and hung up. i glanced outside and saw the boy staring at me. i shook my head and walked over to the living room, plopping on the couch and turning the tv on.
....
about an hour later, the boy came over and knocked on the back door. i pushed myself up and walked over, pulling it open.
"what?" i asked.
"we're done here," he said and handed me a piece of paper. "that's the bill, you're parents can mail us a check."
"alright, thanks." i said.
"meet you in the car," his dad said and tugged the wagon with him. i looked back to the boy whose eyes were already focused on mine.
"would it be totally inappropriate to give you my number?" he asked.
"yeah, probably." i nodded.
"well," he said and handed me a slip of paper. "here you go."
"ainsley!" i heard someone yell as i jumped, turning and seeing rafe walk towards me with a big smile on his face. "i've arrived."
