the next morning, i was woken up at six am sharp by my mom. i sat up, rubbing my eyes as she went on about how i was lazy and hadn't even attempted to put my stuff away in the closet. i pulled my hands away from my face and looked at her. she shook her head, looking at me.

"get up and shower. there's stuff in the bathroom already for you." she told me, stepping out and pulling the door shut.

i pulled myself out of bed. i laid my bag on the ground, unzipping it and pulling out a pair of ripped jeans and a crop top tank. i grabbed some underwear and walked into the bathroom. i flipped the light on, seeing the large bathroom. there was a jacuzzi tub, a shower with a overheard rain showerhead. there was a large sink area with a small vanity sitting space, a chair tucked underneath. on the counter, there was shampoo, conditioner, body wash, a toothbrush and toothpaste.

i pushed the door shut, turning the fan on before turning the shower on. i stripped of my clothes, stepping in and washing my hair and body before climbing out and getting dressed, brushing my teeth. i dropped my dirty clothes in the hamper before walking out of the bedroom and down the stairs and into the kitchen. my mom turned, sliding a bowl of fruit across the counter as i walked over, sliding on the stool.

"thank you," i said as she nodded, wiping her hands on a towel before placing it on the counter.

"we're going to the restaurant at around noon, are you joining us?" she asked, placing her hands on her hips.

"yeah, i'd love to." i nodded, taking a bite of a strawberry.

"i'll get you a uniform." she told me and walked out of the room as i looked over at my dad.

"did you sleep well?"

"yeah, the room is great." i replied.

"well since you're here," he started with made my stomach turn, making me feel guilty. "your brother decided he's also going to be visiting next weekend with his girlfriend."

"kayden has a girlfriend?" i snorted.

"he does and she's lovely." my mom said as she walked back in, sliding a white button up and a pair of slacks on the counter next to me. "i'll get you a tie once we get to the restaurant."

"i got an email from the college." my dad said. "they're asking if you need them to send your transcript."

i looked down at the bowl of fruit, picking at a grape.

"i don't know." i said.

"well you better figure it out." he told me, grabbing his mug and walking out. i looked to my mom as she sighed.

"what about duke?" she asked me. "it's a great college and it's just a few hours away near chapel hill? or there's north carolina in chapel hill?"

"i don't know," i said softly. "i don't know what i want to do."

"honey, you're almost twenty years old, you've got to grow up and make big girl decisions."

"it's not like i can transfer in the middle of the semester anyway, i'd have to wait until spring."

"okay," she nodded. "but that only gives you so much time to make up your mind. you have to put in applications now. you could even change your degree, duke offers so much more."

"i like my degree, i'm still interested in music."

"i just don't want you to end up here again after you complete it all, it's a very hard career path. plus, you destroyed your guitar."

"i didn't destroy shit, my roommate did."

"after you flipped your shit and destroyed your dorm room while you were high."
