"so your dad left, like for good?" rafe asked as he ran his fingers through my hair.
"that's what my mom said, he was enjoying florida, found a new lady and decided he didn't want to come back."
"that's got to be rough on her."
"she didn't want to talk about it." i replied softly. "said we'd talked later, but it's almost one and she's not home."
"and JJ is staying with you guys for now?"
"for good," i told him. "there's no way in hell i'm letting him go back to his dad's house."
"i can't believe i missed that." he said. "i knew right away that cami was in trouble, but i had no idea JJ was too."
"he's good at masking it," i looked up at him. he pushed hair behind my ear as he took a breath.
"are you okay? that's a lot to take in."
"yeah," i nodded. "i think i'm okay, it hasn't completely hit."
"what happens now?"
"i have no idea." i shook my head. he placed his lips on my forehead before i heard him laugh softly.
"what?" i asked as he slipped off the bed. "rafe."
he walked over to my desk, grabbing the guitar out of the case and turned to me.
"i want you to play me a song."
"what?" i smiled.
"come on," he walked over, handing it to me.
"it's so out of tune though, and that will take forever." i groaned.
"i don't care, just play me something." he climbed on the bed next to me as i adjusted the guitar in my hands. i let my fingers go over the strings, letting it produce such a terrible noise i physically cringed.
"that is terrible." i said and started tuning it, strumming to se how close i was. i glanced up, seeing rafe watching me with a smile on his face. "what?" i smiled.
"nothing," he shook his head. "tune your guitar, you're singing me a song, i don't care."
i laughed and finished it up before moving myself in a more comfortable position.
"what song?" i asked.
"sing one of yours."
"one of mine?"
"yeah, you write songs, don't you?"
"how do you know all of this?"
"topper told me you said something along those lines." he said. "come on, sing."
i groaned, "grab the notebook from the nightstand."
he smiled and pulled it out of the drawer, handing it to me. i flipped it opened, pushing through the pages and trying to find a song but i pushed it shut.
"no," i said. "i can't."
"why not?"
"i hate all of them, every single one of my songs, they're so stupid and meaningless."
"okay, then sing a song you think it's meaningful."
"not so much meaningful, but i love this song." i said and shifted, looking at him. "i just really love this song."
"go," he laughed as i started strumming.
"tell me how, tell me how we both got here," i sang, watching my fingers. "we can't stop now, love is in the atmosphere and i don't wanna lose you. don't know what i'm doing, but it's alright, yeah, it's alright." i looked up at him, smiling wide. "so please don't leave me here tonight, lonely on the dance floor 'cause i've been waiting my whole life for a moment like you. so please don't leave me here tonight, lonely on the dance floor 'cause i've been waiting my whole life for a moment like you. take you off, i can't seem to take you off-"
