I lie down in my bed staring at the fan slowly turning above my head. It's almost time for my alarm to go off.

*BEEP BEEP BEEP*

"Ugh" I groaned as I slowly sat myself up. I rub the sleep from eyes and check my phone. I'm only 11 years old, but my parents got me a phone for my birthday which was yesterday.

The bright light from my phone screen hurt my eyes and I immediately turned the phone off.

I opened my closet door and glanced around to see what I should wear. After about five minutes I decided on a t-shirt and sweatpants. Since I wasn't dressing dressy I pulled my hair into a tight bun and put a headband on.

I opened my door and walked towards the kitchen. It was dark so I turned on the light. I noticed a dark red substance on the sliding glass door. I'm home alone in the morning so I couldn't tell my parents. I decided I would just eat and go to school. Not worry about some ketchup or something on the door, it was probably just a stupid prank.

I opened the refrigerator and pulled out the milk. I grabbed a box of lucky charms, a bowl, and a spoon. I sat down at the table and began to eat.

While I was eating I heard something walk up onto the back porch. It hit me right then, I didn't have the door locked. Quickly I grabbed the kitchen knife and hid behind the counter.

I watched as whomever it was approached my door. When they got into seeing distance. He looked sick and beaten. He looked dead. Placing two hands on the door he began to pound violently while making dreadful noises.

The glass began to crack and my anxiety sky rocketed. Clenching the knife tightly I tried to hold back a tear as he busted through my door. For a moment, he stood still. Glancing around. I figured he really needed help. "Sir, can I help you with something? Are you okay sir?" I mumbled to the man. Immediately he started to run towards me. He grabbed me and tried to bite me. I used the knife and I stabbed him in the stomach but he wouldn't stop coming.

After what felt like forever I finally stabbed him in the head and he fell to the ground. I thought to myself, this man was only sick, he was trying to get help and I killed him. I began to cry as I fell to the floor.

That's when I was 'rescued' by a rescue team. They took me to some shelter but after about a month it was overrun. I found my way to the Alexandria Safe Zone by myself. I survived on my own, from age 11 to age 16. By myself. All alone.
