25. Playground

At night, and below the bridge, there was a river in the valley, that we were going to cross.

Crossing rivers and barriers. The action of doing so had a significant meaning in Jujutsu after all.

The moment we stepped over the river we were swallowed up into a domain of a cursed spirit.
Out of the ceiling, a curse popped out.

"There it is." Yuuji grinned while cracking his knuckles.

"This should be fun." Nobara smirked as she readied her hammer.

I hummed as I crouched down and put my hand into my shadow, going for the axe that I've been using quite a lot recently.

"Guh?" behind us another curse appeared and had us frozen in our spot.
"What's this? Somebody's already here?"

We all turned, coming out of our shock and looking at it.

"Fushiguro, this is something else, right?" Nobara asked.

"Yeah..." Megumi frowned.

"You guys focus on that one." Yuuji spoke up and charged up his cursed energy into his fists.
"This one's mine!"

"What? You're gonna plaaaay with meee?"

So it ended up with Megumi, Nobara and me playing whack-a-mole while Yuuji fought that weird curse.

But I couldn't help glancing back at the salmon haired boy from time to time, even though I knew he could handle it himself.

Why do I get this creepy feeling from it?

"We should just pretend like it's whack-a-mole, right?" Nobara asked as we took a short break.

"Yeah. Just keep crushing the exits for me." Megumi answered.

"It probably won't retaliate, anyway." I huffed as I leaned onto my axe.

"So, in exchange for its curses wide range, the main body can't attack?" Kugusaki tilted her head.

"Maybe, not sure." Megumi sighed.

We stood there in silence for a bit until I felt a shiver run down my spine, but I shook it off until Megumi yelled out.

"Kugisaki!"

I turned towards the girl and saw her being swallowed into a black hole.
"Nobara!"

"No worries. You just keep whacking those moles." she pointed at us before she was swallowed whole.

"Shit!"

"Kugisaki!" Yuuji shouted, distracted from his own fight.

"Ah! Who? Older brother? Me too!" the curse yelled, booking it towards the black hole in the wall.

"It ran away?!" Yuuji looked after it dumbfounded.

"Keep after it!" I shouted and he jumped into action, running after it.
"Nobara and that thing are outside the barrier! She might be up against something much worse!"

"Leave the things on the inside to us! We'll handle it!" Megumi added.
"Kugisaki's the top priority! Go!!"

"If you get in trouble, you better get out too!" Yuuji yelled at us before he jumped out of the black hole before it closed up.

"Let's clean this up and help them." I frowned and tightened the grip on my axe.

"Yeah."

And with that the both of us rushed off to go for the exits of that damn mole kinda curse.
