“No slouching number eight!” Reginald says loudly. “Back straight.”

Sighing quietly I do as Reginald says and stand up straighter. Raising my fist in front of me I get in a fighting position putting my right foot behind my left with my back still straight, getting ready to fight Five.

“Don’t put your foot behind like that! That will give Five leverage,” Reginald says, giving Five a signal and just like that Five warps in front of me as he throws a punch towards my face. Without thinking I keep the same stance throwing my hand in front of my face to block Five’s punches. But that gives Five a chance to take me down, and he does. Taking his chance he uses his foot to kick my right foot back which causes me to fall onto my back. Seeing that he beat me Five steps back and looks at his Dad for a response. “See eight, you gave him leverage. You have to keep your feet at a shoulder width length if you want any chance of winning a fight.”

Groaning, I just lay on the ground till I see Five’s hand reach out for me. Looking over I see that Five has a nervous smile on his face as he has his hand reached out for me. Rolling my eyes I grab his hand so he can help me up.

“Now try again,” Reginald demands

“Come on,” I whine tiredly. "I’ve only been here a week, can’t I just-”

“Try again,” Reginald says. “In order to be a good fighter you need to practice daily.”

Sighing I do as he says. Getting in a fighting position I use the suggestion Reginald gave me and put my feet shoulder width apart. Both me and Five raise our fists at the same time. Standing there we both wait for one of us to make the first move, and eventually I do.

Running towards him I raise one of my fists to punch him. But before I can even do anything Five grabs my wrist with both his hands pulling it behind my back. Groaning, I try to reach back with my free hand but Five shoves me onto my knees.Spinning onto my butt I get the hand Five’s gripping out from behind my back and in front of me. Grabbing the neck of Fives tie with my free hand I pull him on top of me, using my legs I flip him onto his back so that I was now on top of him. Still gripping my wrist with both his hands he lets go with one, using it to grab my other wrist as he tries to somehow push me off.

“Enough!” Reginald says loudly making me and Five both quickly push ourselves away from each other and to our feet as if we hadn’t just been caught stealing. “You're learning eight…” He continues which almost makes me smile. “But you still have a lot more practice to do.” Then he just turns and leaves the room, leaving only me and Five alone.

“I think you did great,” Five says lifting his head up to meet my eyes. “You're better than I was when I first started.”

“Thanks,” I say nervously, since this had been the first time we had talked since I first arrived at the academy.
