“So how late will you be out?”

“A few hours on specific days,”

“Why specific?”

“To get the best view we need to be able to track them over a certain amount of time,”

My dad looked between Jon and me. It was Friday after school and Jon had come over to explain the star gazing schedule he had made.

“What about weekdays you both can’t be out late,”

“I’ve worked it around so it will mostly be on the weekends,”

My dad nodded but I could see a smirk twitching because that would mean I’m not getting into trouble with Tony.

Jon proceeded to show my dad what he had made so far and what else we would be doing. He really enjoyed this science stuff. My dad seemed confused after a few minutes. I knew Jon was being thorough out of respect.

“Okay Okay Jon I get it I was never good at academics,” he chuckled and put a hand up to stop Jon.

“Friday and Saturday’s can be unlimited as long as she is only with you and I want to see the work on Sunday to make sure the work is recorded,”

“Yes sir,” I rolled my eyes, Jon didn’t need to ‘sir’ my dad.

“If you have to on weekdays one am is the latest and I want her checking in,”

“I’m right here you know,” I blurted out.

They both looked at me and turned back to the conversation they were having as if I hadn’t said anything. I threw my hands up in the air and turned on the TV plopping onto the couch ignoring them.

How annoying that they were planning my weekends. I was going to be stuck spending all my free time on them with Jon. The idea wasn’t all that unpleasant but it made my stomach flutter with clenching warmth.

My phone buzzed.

What are you doing?

Listening to your brother and my dad plan my weekends for the next few months bleh

Haha you got yourself into that one

I don’t mind but I almost wish I would have waited to start next weekend

Almost?

They are annoying

Think you could sneak out to hang out

Hey that rhymed…no my dad is making sure Jon keeps tabs on me over the weekends

Jesus

Yeah I think he knows something is up at the group home

Good maybe you will stop seeing that douche

Your hiding something from me too you know, you and Jon

I didn’t get a response right away.

When I’m ready I’ll tell you

I know

I put my phone away and ignored the rest of the conversation Jon and my dad were having. We had already been discussing it for awhile and the basics were done. My dad was being overly thorough as well because of Jon mentioning how the best time to observe was at night in the dark and can go late into the evening.

That was when he started to get twenty questions from my dad. Not that he didn’t trust Jon it was me I don’t think he trusted. He was always overprotective of me but lenient when he knew exactly what was going on.
